Original job description
Are you competitive, entrepreneurial and driven by results? Do you enjoy picking up the phone, building relationships and spotting opportunities before anyone else?
At Grain St Laurent, we buy and sell physical agricultural commodities across North America. This isn’t financial trading: real products, real suppliers, real customers and real shipments.
As a BDR, you are the engine of our growth. Your job is to open doors: you identify and approach new suppliers and buyers, qualify opportunities and turn first conversations into business relationships.
Our goal: to turn you into a Grain Trader who builds their own book of business.
Your path from BDR to Trader
0–6 months | Logistics immersion: understand the deal
Before you start prospecting, you learn how a transaction works from A to Z. You coordinate shipments, negotiate freight and handle issues as they come up. Along the way you see how freight, shipping terms and execution affect pricing and margins. That foundation is what will make your prospecting credible.
6–12 months | BDR: build the network
You move into business development. You prospect actively (calls, emails, LinkedIn, industry events), open new supplier accounts, qualify needs, volumes and pricing, and identify available inventory and buying opportunities for the trading team. This is where you build your commercial instincts and learn to read the market.
12+ months | Trader: buy and sell
You build your own book of customers while continuing to grow your supplier network. You work both sides of the market: you buy, you sell, you negotiate your margins and you manage your transactions from the first conversation through to delivery.
In the end, your suppliers, your customers, your deals and your results are yours.
Who we’re looking for
- Entrepreneurial, competitive and results-driven
- You enjoy prospecting and aren’t afraid to call people you don’t know yet
- Resilient: hearing “no” doesn’t slow you down
- Strong negotiation and communication skills
- Able to make decisions and solve problems quickly
- Independent, organized, resourceful and comfortable taking ownership
- Bilingual in French and English, because of the territory we cover
- Experience in B2B sales, business development, agriculture, logistics, distribution or a commission-based environment is an asset
Why McGill St Laurent?
- A clear, hands-on path from BDR to Trader
- Uncapped commissions as you progress into trading
- An entrepreneurial culture where initiative and prospecting are rewarded
- The opportunity to build your own network and book of business

This role is 100% on-site. We believe working directly alongside the team speeds up learning, strengthens collaboration and builds the instincts you need to succeed in trading.
Prospect. Build your network. Become a Trader.
