Original job description

Please refer to the How to Apply for a Job (for External Candidates) job aid for instructions on how to apply.

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at McGill University invites applications for an appointment as a full-time Faculty Lecturer.

McGill University consistently ranks amongst the top universities worldwide and is recognized for the excellence of its teaching and research programs.

The Department is committed to excellence in teaching in its undergraduate and graduate programs in Electrical, Computer, and Software Engineering. A number of faculty have received numerous teaching awards at the faculty and university levels, as well as from professional societies. The successful candidate will play a leading role in teaching undergraduate courses in Electrical, Computer, and Software Engineering.

Teaching endeavours are supported in part by a dedicated and outstanding Teaching and Learning Services unit and the Enhancing Learning and Teaching in Engineering Initiative. The successful candidate will be expected to be an active member in both communities. Moreover, the successful candidate will be encouraged to participate in the scholarship of teaching and learning.

The expected start date is July 1, 2027. This is a full-time ranked academic, non-tenure track position with an initial appointment of two (2) year with an additional two (2) years upon successful performance review. After 6 years of continuous employment, re-appointment is for an indefinite term. Promotion can lead to a Senior Faculty Lecturer position.

Candidates should have or soon expect a Ph.D. in engineering, education, or related field and a first degree in electrical, computer, or software engineering. Evidence of outstanding teaching achievements, or teaching potential, is indispensable. Preferred qualifications include dedication to an environment that supports diversity of population and perspectives; as our students come from a wide range of disciplines, cultures, and backgrounds, we invite candidates to address in their application their ability to teach, train, and mentor in this context. The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to the mission of the University, through outstanding activities in the areas of teaching, engineering education research, and service.

Membership or eligibility for membership in a Canadian professional engineering association is required.

Interested candidates should submit a complete application consisting of the following:

A cover letter
A curriculum vitae
A teaching statement that includes a description of your teaching philosophy and interests,
samples of teaching materials, e.g., a course outline from a course developed and taught, and where available, evidence of teaching effectiveness, e.g., student course evaluations
A statement on equity, diversity and inclusion
The names and email addresses of three references

Applications will be reviewed beginning December 1, 2026, and will continue until the position is filled. Depending on feasibility, interviews may be conducted either in person or remotely.

Application materials should be submitted using this application form. Please add all supporting documents into the CV field of the application form.

For more information about the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, please visit our website at: mcgill.ca/ece. Inquiries may be sent to the Chair of the Department, Warren Gross, at chair.ece@mcgill.ca.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Montreal is a cosmopolitan city in the heart of Quebec and home the largest population of university institutions and students in Canada and tied for first in North America. Montreal is consistently ranked at the top of the best cities worldwide for post-secondary studies.

McGill University is a top-tier research-intensive academic institution in Canada and has consistently been ranked among the top universities worldwide across all reputable ranking surveys. Its collegial environment with opportunities for interaction with world-class researchers spans all applied and theoretical technical fields.

McGill University is an English-language university where most teaching and research activities are conducted in the English language, thereby requiring English communication both verbally and in writing.

McGill University is committed to equity and diversity within its community and values academic rigour and excellence. We welcome and encourage applications from racialized persons/visible minorities, women, Indigenous persons, persons with disabilities, ethnic minorities, and persons of minority sexual orientations and gender identities, as well as from all qualified candidates with the skills and knowledge to engage productively with diverse communities.

At McGill, research that reflects diverse intellectual traditions, methodologies, and modes of dissemination and translation is valued and encouraged. Candidates are invited to demonstrate their research impact both within and across academic disciplines and in other sectors, such as government, communities, or industry.

McGill further recognizes and fairly considers the impact of leaves (e.g., family care or health-related) that may contribute to career interruptions or slowdowns. Candidates are encouraged to signal any leave that affected productivity, or that may have had an effect on their career path. This information will be considered to ensure the equitable assessment of the candidate’s record.

McGill implements an employment equity program and encourages members of designated equity groups to self-identify. It further seeks to ensure the equitable treatment and full inclusion of persons with disabilities by striving for the implementation of universal design principles transversally, across all facets of the University community, and through accommodation policies and procedures. Persons with disabilities who anticipate needing accommodations for any part of the application process may contact, in confidence, accessibilityrequest.hr@mcgill.ca.

All qualified applicants are encouraged to apply; however, in accordance with Canadian immigration requirements, Canadians and permanent residents will be given priority.
