Position Summary:
Assisting instructor of the course with instruction and evaluation of students.
For laboratory-based courses (MECH 241, 261, 332, 360, 362, 383, and 412): Teaching Assistants are required to be available to support laboratory sessions, the schedules for which are determined at the beginning of the term. These sessions will take place outside of regularly scheduled lecture and tutorial hours. Flexibility in availability is required to meet the instructional and scheduling needs of the course. TAs will be expected to supervise up to 20 hours of laboratory sessions, at the instructor's discretion.

MECH 215 – Statics
Requires public speaking ability. Basic understanding of statics and fundamental mechanics concepts, including free-body diagrams, equilibrium, force systems, moments, trusses, and friction. Requires public speaking ability. Preferably have been a teaching assistant previously. Past TA duties must include marking or demonstrating or tutoring. MECH 220 – Introduction to Dynamics

MECH 241 – Fundamentals of Thermodynamics

MECH 261 – Measurement Laboratory
Lab TAs: Presence during scheduled lab experiment hours obligatory (decided per student lab sign-up after start of term). Must have completed MECH 261 or 262 or equivalent. Experience required in experimental research, measurement device operation and data analysis. Requires public speaking ability. Proficiency in English required as assessed by the instructor.
One Course TA: Must have completed MECH 261 or 262 or equivalent. Understanding of the principles of measurement device operation, electric circuits, statistics and data analysis required. Requires public speaking ability. Proficiency in English required as assessed by the instructor.
MECH 265 – Numerical Linear Algebra

MECH 289 – Design Graphics [for non-Mechanical Engineers]
Requires public speaking ability. Demonstrated knowledge of the course subject matter and a strong academic background in the subject are required. Experience with Design Graphics, Proficiency in AutoCAD 2D and 3D and standards and conventions of Design Graphics Communication necessary. Past TA duties must include marking or demonstrating or tutoring Proficiency in English required as assessed by the instructor.
MECH 292 – Design 1: Conceptual Design
Requires public speaking ability. Demonstrated knowledge of the course subject matter and a strong academic background in the subject are required. Experience with Arduino and basic electronics is preferred, as is prior experience with engineering design projects, hands-on prototyping, or project-based learning.

MECH 341 – Thermodynamics II

MECH 346 – Heat Transfer
Requires public speaking ability. Must have completed and excelled in MECH 240 (or equivalent), MECH 331 (or equivalent), MECH 346 (or equivalent), and MECH 650. Prior TA experience in MECH 346 is highly desirable. Past TA duties must include marking or demonstrating or tutoring Proficiency in English required as assessed by the instructor.
MECH 360 – Principles of Manufacturing
Requires public speaking ability. Demonstrated knowledge of the course subject matter and a strong academic background in the subject are required. Must identify self to instructor as potential TA at least one term before application, for training during class tutorials. Basic knowledge of metrology instruments, how to use and read caliper, what are coordinate measuring machines and measurement probes. Basic understanding of geometric and dimensional tolerances. Knowledge of G-code, turning and milling operations, and previous hands-on experience operating machine tools are preferred. Past TA duties must include marking or demonstrating or tutoring. Proficiency in English required as assessed by the instructor.
MECH 362 – Mechanical Laboratory 1
Requires public speaking ability. Must previously have taken this course or equivalent. Must have completed an undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering. Past TA duties must include marking or demonstrating or tutoring. Proficiency in English required as assessed by the instructor.
MECH 383 – Applied Electronics and Instrumentation
Requires public speaking ability. Must previously have taken this course or equivalent. Must be a graduate in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering. Experience in Python programming is required. Past TA duties must include marking or demonstrating or tutoring. Proficiency in English required as assessed by the instructor.
MECH 390 – Computer Aided Design
Requires public speaking ability. Basic understanding of computer-aided design (CAD) principles and practices. Familiarity with 3D parametric modelling, engineering drawings, assemblies, and design documentation is preferred. Requires public speaking ability. Preferably have been a teaching assistant previously. Past TA duties must include marking or demonstrating or tutoring. Proficiency in English required as assessed by the instructor.
MECH 393 – Design 2: Machine Element Design
Requires public speaking ability. Solid understanding of machine element design, including stress analysis, failure criteria, material selection, and the design of components such as shafts, fasteners, bearings, and gears. Previous experience with mechanical design projects and guiding students in machine design projects is preferred. Requires public speaking ability. Preferably have been a teaching assistant for this course previously. Past TA duties must include marking or demonstrating or tutoring. Proficiency in English required as assessed by the instructor.
MECH 412 – System Dynamics and Control
Requires public speaking ability. Must have completed a course in system dynamics and control. Experience with Matlab/Simulink and MSC ADAMS. Past TA duties must include marking or demonstrating or tutoring. Proficiency in English required as assessed by the instructor.
MECH 415 – Applied Solid Mechanics
Requires public speaking ability. Experience with finite element method, mechanical testing, and solid mechanics necessary. TA duties must include leading and supporting laboratory tutorials and in-class demonstrations, as well as tutoring. Preferably have been a teaching assistant for this course or an equivalent course previously. Proficiency in English required as assessed by the instructor.
MECH 430 – Fluid Mechanics 2
Requires public speaking ability. Must previously have taken this course or an equivalent course on compressible flow and have research experience in gasdynamics. Past TA duties must include marking or demonstrating or tutoring. Proficiency in English required as assessed by the instructor.
MECH 463 – Mechanical Engineering Project
Requires public speaking ability. Must previously taken this course or equivalent. (hands-on design and build capstone project course). Experience in project management, project coordination, or multidisciplinary engineering projects is preferred. Experience with WebCT environment is an asset.
