The Peter Guo-hua Fu School of Architecture is seeking to recruit a Workshop Facilitator to support the operation of the Laser Cutting Room during peak academic periods. The incumbent will assist students with equipment use, monitor adherence to safety procedures, and help maintain a safe and organized workshop environment.
Responsibilities:
- Open and close the Laser Cutting Room during peak demand periods, including midterm and final review periods, typically Monday to Friday from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
- Assist students with the after-hours booking system and room access procedures.
- Provide guidance to students on the safe and proper operation of laser cutting equipment.
- Monitor equipment use to ensure all safety protocols and operating procedures are followed.
- Troubleshoot student files, machine settings, and basic equipment issues to support successful project completion.
- Report technical problems, equipment malfunctions, and safety concerns to the appropriate staff.
- Assist with the maintenance, organization, and cleanliness of the Laser Cutting Room and its equipment.
- Support a safe, professional, and productive workspace for all users.
Qualifications:
- Current undergraduate or graduate student, preferably in Architecture, Design, Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills with the ability to assist students in a professional and approachable manner.
- Ability to follow and enforce workshop safety procedures and operational guidelines.
- Basic technical aptitude and willingness to learn the operation of workshop equipment and tools.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and responsibly during evening shifts.
- Reliable, punctual, and capable of managing multiple requests in a busy environment.
- Ability to maintain a clean, safe, and organized workspace.
