Original job description

We're a growing law firm with plenty of good ideas. We need your help to turn them into well-run projects and teach us along the way. The scope is firm-wide, the work is hands-on, and what you build here will outlast any single project.

In August 2026, McLennan Ross established an Innovation and Knowledge Management team. This is the firm's first Project Manager and Process Analyst role, created to give us the capacity to turn plans into results. In your first year, you'll get to know the firm and how it operates, then introduce a project mindset and a project management framework. You'll show people across the firm what a well-planned, accountable project looks like and take a close look at how our work gets done so it can be done better. You'll manage projects from scoping to adoption, keeping project owners informed and supported as they drive the business outcomes.

This individual contributor role has a firm-wide mandate and can be based in Edmonton or Calgary. We're looking for the best person for the job, whichever city they call home.

What you'll do:

Project management

  • Introduce a practical project management framework for the firm, including intake, charters, work breakdown structures, governance, status reporting and post-project reviews.
  • Facilitate requirements gathering and business needs analysis.
  • Manage projects from scoping to adoption, working with sponsors who own the business outcomes.
  • Keep projects on track by managing scope, risks, budgets and competing priorities across departments.

Process analysis

  • Document how work actually happens.
  • Find delays, duplicated effort and manual steps, then design and recommend better ways of working.
  • Set baselines and measure results so improvements are proven, not assumed.

Technology and AI adoption

  • Scope and manage technology projects, including the rollout and adoption of AI tools such as Harvey, the firm's recently launched enterprise legal AI platform.
  • Make sure new tools solve real problems, fit with existing systems and actually get used.
  • Lead by example, using the firm's tools to make project work more efficient, visible and easy to follow.

Stakeholder engagement

  • Build trusted working relationships with partners, practice group leaders, committees and business services leaders, and understand their priorities and how decisions get made in a partnership.
  • Earn support for new ways of working through credibility, evidence and follow-through.
  • Prepare clear, concise briefings, recommendations and status updates that help partners and committees make timely decisions.

Service to the firm

  • Support business services teams, firm leadership and lawyers, including practice group initiatives that affect how legal services reach clients.
  • Prepare people for change through clear communication, training and follow-through.

Who you are:

  • You have a background in business, project management, technology or a related field, ideally a bachelor's degree backed by ongoing professional development.
  • You have roughly 5 to 8 years of experience in project management, business analysis or process improvement. We're also open to accomplished project coordinators or analysts who have shown leadership on their projects and are ready to take the next step.
  • You have a portfolio of delivered projects and process changes you can point to with results.
  • You can influence without formal authority and earn the trust of partners, lawyers and firm leaders, backed by strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • You have a practical interest in AI and how it fits into real workflows. Hands-on implementation experience is an asset.
  • You have an advanced working knowledge of Microsoft 365, including SharePoint, Teams, Planner, Loop, Power BI and Power Automate, and of process-mapping tools such as Visio.
  • Assets: PMP, CBAP or Lean Six Sigma (Green Belt or higher) certification; law firm or professional services experience.

Why you'll want to work with us

You'll build it, not inherit it. You're joining a new team in its first year, as the firm's first project manager and process analyst. The framework, the habits and the standards for how projects get done here will be yours to establish.

You'll influence the things that make us all better. Untangling a messy process or watching a new tool click for a skeptical colleague is satisfying work, and you'll get plenty of both.

Your work will show. This role touches every part of the firm, from finance and HR to IT and practice support. When a process runs smoother or a rollout lands well, people will notice and know who made it happen. You'll report to the Manager of Innovation and Knowledge Management and work directly with firm leadership, lawyers and business professionals in Edmonton, Calgary and Yellowknife.

You'll work with AI in practice, not just in theory. The firm has already rolled out Harvey as its enterprise legal AI platform. You'll help turn that investment, and the tools that follow it, into everyday results.

You'll enjoy the work, and the people. You'll work with colleagues who are curious about doing things better. We're a social firm that makes time to connect, both in and out of the office, and we back it up with a competitive total compensation package.

How to apply:

Send your resume and a cover letter describing a project or process improvement you're proud of and what changed because of it. This is your chance to show us who you are. You're welcome to use AI to help organize your thoughts, but we want to hear your own voice.
