Original job description

About Mecka AI Mecka AI is building the data infrastructure layer for robotics and embodied AI. We design and operate global systems for data capture, data labeling, and hardware-enabled workflows used by leading AI labs and robotics companies to train and validate humanoid and embodied AI systems. We work closely with frontier robotics teams to bridge real-world data, simulation, learning-based systems, and deployed hardware. About the Role Tax touches every part of our business model: the entities and teams we run in several jurisdictions, the payments we send across borders to a large base of contributors and partners, the capture hardware that moves between countries, and the data we license to customers in other markets. As we grow, each of these turns into real filings and liabilities, and the structure behind them has to hold up with auditors, investors, and tax authorities. As Manager, Tax, you will own direct and indirect tax across every entity and market, run compliance and the income tax provision with our accounting team and outside advisors, and set the transfer pricing that governs how our entities deal with one another. You will also advise our commercial, operations, and legal teams on the tax consequences of new markets, deals, and acquisitions before we commit to them. What You Will Do Compliance: Own the tax calendar and every filing across our entities, including corporate income tax, sales tax, VAT and GST returns, withholding, and information reporting, whether the work is prepared in-house or by outside advisors. Provision and audit: Prepare the income tax provision under US GAAP (ASC 740) with our accounting team, including deferred taxes, valuation allowances, and uncertain tax positions, and own the tax side of every financial statement audit. Transfer pricing: Build and maintain the transfer pricing policy, intercompany agreements, and documentation that set how our entities charge one another, and make sure monthly intercompany invoicing follows the policy. New markets: Assess the tax footprint of each new country and operating model before we open, covering entity and partner structures, permanent establishment exposure, local registrations, and the tax cost of each option. Cross-border payments: Set the tax rules for paying contributors, merchants, and partners in many countries, including withholding, payee tax forms, and reporting, and work with logistics on import duties and taxes on capture hardware. Deals and acquisitions: Advise on the tax structure of customer and partner agreements and of acquisitions of companies, datasets, and other assets, so the tax cost of every deal is known and priced before signature. Advisors and authorities: Select and manage outside tax advisors across jurisdictions against clear scopes and budgets, respond to notices and audits from tax authorities, and claim the credits and incentives we qualify for, such as research and development credits. What You Bring Experience: 5 to 8+ years in tax, including time at a Big Four or national accounting firm and in-house at a high-growth company operating in several countries. Qualification: CPA, CA, or an equivalent accounting or tax qualification. International tax: Hands-on experience with corporate income tax, transfer pricing, withholding, and indirect tax across several countries at once, including intercompany arrangements you have built or maintained. Provision: You have prepared or reviewed an income tax provision under ASC 740 and taken it through an external audit. Business judgment: You turn complex tax rules and advisor memos into clear decisions and next steps for teams outside finance. AI fluency: You use AI tools in your day-to-day work to research rules, prepare workpapers, and keep a multi-country compliance calendar on track. Agency: A high degree of initiative and comfort with ambiguity. You will set your own priorities and build processes where none exist yet. Even better if you have Industry: Tax experience at a marketplace, gig, delivery, or AI data company that pays across many countries. Emerging markets: Corporate and indirect tax experience in emerging markets, where rules change often and published guidance is thin. Transactions: Tax structuring for asset and share acquisitions, intellectual property, or data licensing. Credits: Research and development tax credit claims in the United States or Canada. Build from scratch: Experience building tax processes, controls, and tooling at a venture-backed company. If you don't check every box above but believe you can do the job, we encourage you to apply - we're looking for capability and trajectory, not a perfect checklist match. We strive to create an inclusive work environment for all; we welcome applicants from all backgrounds and are committed to providing equal opportunities. Should you require any accommodations during the recruitment process, we will partner with you to meet your needs. We may use AI-assisted tools to help evaluate applications against the requirements of this role. These tools support our recruiting team in identifying qualified candidates but do not replace human judgment or limit which applications may be reviewed or considered.
