About the Role

We are looking for an Operations Builder to design and structure our service offerings to our portfolio companies, enabling them administratively, operationally, and financially. This role will touch on administrative back office functions, operational improvement and optimization, and business growth. The ideal candidate will bring operational expertise in a relevant business function, paired with an interest in expanding their breadth of knowledge and a strong ability to both learn quickly and deliver value while learning.

This role reports to the VP of Ops and Product, and will collaborate closely with him and the rest of the operations/product team to build out the operations strategy and roadmap. This job is for a structured doer. We need someone who has a bias for action; is excited to try things, monitor results, and iterate; and centers the output around a resilient and adaptable service model that delivers value at scale to every partner who needs it. This role is also deeply implicated in product development and will be a key partner for both the product and engineering teams to incorporate our service offerings into our core technology product.

We understand this is a broad, high impact role, and there are many backgrounds we think could be successful here, so if the role excites you, please apply; we’d love to meet you and explore if there’s a fit!

About Meroka

Meroka acquires high-quality construction businesses and helps them grow and scale. These businesses are essential to the economy and employ millions of individuals. The people who built these businesses, and the people who keep them running, should be the ones who get rich when those businesses succeed. They're not, today. We're building Meroka to change that.

Permanent ownership is at the heart of what we do. We are not looking to flip a business in five years and abandon it. We want to nurture these businesses and help them grow, enabled by products built out by our pioneering tech and operations team.

The owners of these businesses are intelligent entrepreneurs who provide a tangible, irreplaceable service. We want to partner with these individuals, learn from them and give them a stake in what they have built. Ownership is at the heart of Meroka: when something is your own, you find purpose in your work; you take responsibility and you enjoy the upside you helped create.

Autonomy matters just as much to us. These are not deals we close at the end of a process. Each one is the start of a lifetime partnership where we are behind the scenes, providing the services and tech platforms that help our partners break into new markets, improve profitability and reinvest capital into their business. They choose what they want from us, and we work with them on integrating the chosen products. We don't tell them what to do: it is a mutual partnership based on respect and passion for the built world.

We've raised roughly $25M CAD from Slow Ventures, 8VC, Better Tomorrow Ventures, Interplay and others. Our first business is acquired, with many more to come. Between them, the founders have built and run construction-tech businesses at real scale (think $100M in revenue and 600+ people), invested as venture capitalists, led M&A for public companies, designed novel deal structures and joint ventures, run manufacturing lines and started companies of their own. We are currently pursuing deals in Canada and will expand to the UK. We have one foot on the job site, one foot in Silicon Valley and straddle both worlds with steel-toe boots and a Tims in hand.

Beyond the founders, we are a small, tight-knit team based out of Montreal and London. We are enthusiastic, committed and relentless about growing Meroka, for our partner companies, investors and ourselves. We live and breathe this company, and that passion is an essential part of what makes Meroka special. From the junior analyst to the CEO, everyone thinks about what is good for the company, what is good for our partners and how to contribute to Meroka’s success. We have a culture of "learn it all, not know it all", regardless of seniority. Every single member on the team is here because they want to build a business that creates wealth for stakeholders/ employees and champions the entrepreneurs that are too often forgotten.

This Is Not For You If…

You have a lane you are an expert in and you want to stay in that lane.
You like the control and predictability of making change through incremental improvements rather than building from scratch.
You do your best work with precise processes, defined systems, and a playbook to follow.
You want a controlled, predictable, highly systematized day to day
You like problems to have a clear, straightforward, and unambiguous solution

What You'll Do

Identify the most compelling value added services that our partners need and build them from the ground up. You'll set the standard for each service line: what it is, its quality bar, and how it runs.
Build the team that delivers those services
Spend time with the businesses we acquire, talking to operators, understanding real workflows, and building services people will actually use and gain value from.
Collaborate with the engineering, and product team to make sure the services we build are enabled by our product
Work hand in hand with the partner facing operations team to design & build service lines, and equip the Integration team to deploy them.
Learn from the field to iterate and improve the quality, scope, and offerings within our service lines

Who You Are

You are able to work across multiple domains, you can quickly understand and structure partner needs (both expressed and implicit), and you can identify and prioritize the biggest value levers.
You have a people-first lens, and understand that a service offering needs to work first for the people interacting with it before any value can be created from it
You are excited about building some of the service features using AI tools
You are comfortable in ambiguity, and like to build structure, processes, and tools to reduce ambiguity over time
You like to always be learning, and you excel at making connection between different domains to improve your understanding and innovate new solutions
You have an interest in the physical, built world and the operators who run it.
You have operational experience in a relevant business function
You have led a team before
You are fully fluent, written and spoken, in both French and English

Nice to Haves

You have experience in a physical economy industry (warehousing, manufacturing, logistics, construction, etc)
Extra points if you’ve been a construction project manager, site supervisor, or administrative support
You have led people and teams before
You have experience building from scratch in an early-stage environment, a startup, or your own projects.
You have fluency with AI coding tools and can turn an idea into a tangible product

How to Apply

Please send us either a short Loom video (preferred), your CV or a brief summary of your experience. We will reach out to you to schedule an introductory phone call as the first step of the interview process.
