DEPARTMENT: Human Resources

SALARY RANGE: $25.48 per hour

POSITION TYPE: Full-Time, Temporary (January 2027 – August 2027)

LOCATION: Saskatoon, Saskatchewan

ACCOUNTABLE TO: Operations Policy and HR Project Manager

Brief Overview:

The Human Resources Assistant is an 8-month Edwards School of Business Co-op Internship placement with Métis Nation-Saskatchewan (MN-S), running from January 2027 to August 2027. Reporting to the Operations Policy and HR Project Manager, this role provides administrative and operational support across recruitment, onboarding, employee records management, benefits and RRSP administration, HR compliance, and employee programs.

The Human Resources Assistant supports the Human Resources Department by coordinating hiring activities, maintaining confidential employee records, assisting with HR reporting, supporting employee onboarding and engagement initiatives, and helping ensure HR policies, procedures, and documentation remain accurate and up to date. Through these activities, the role contributes to effective HR service delivery and a positive employee and candidate experience. The successful candidate will demonstrate professionalism, strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to confidentiality while contributing to an inclusive workplace that honours and promotes Métis culture, diversity, and reconciliation.

Key Responsibilities:

Recruitment & Onboarding

Draft job descriptions and interview questions for review.

Screen applications, identify qualified candidates, and provide shortlists to hiring managers for review and consideration.

Schedule and coordinate interviews, including managing calendars and communicating interview details to candidates and interviewers.

Support the interview process by participating in candidate interviews and evaluation discussions.

Prepare and send regret letters to unsuccessful candidates in a timely and professional manner.

Maintain candidate and recruitment records.

Facilitate consistent and professional communication with candidates throughout the hiring process.

Assist with the facilitation of employee onboarding.

HR Administration

Support the maintenance of employee files and HR databases.

Assist with data entry and ensure employee information is accurate and up to date.

Prepare letters, forms, reports, and other HR-related documentation.

Respond to routine employee inquiries and direct more complex matters to appropriate HR team members.

Help develop, organize, maintain, and update HR templates, forms, files, communication materials, and other departmental resources.

Schedule meetings, book meeting rooms, and arrange catering as required.

Other duties as assigned.

Benefits & RRSP Administration

Support HR Consultants with the administration of employee Benefits and RRSP, including enrollments, updates, terminations, record maintenance, and responding to routine employee inquiries.

Policy & Compliance

Assist with the review, formatting, and updating of HR policies, procedures, employee handbooks, and compliance-related documentation.

Conduct research on employment legislation, regulations, and HR best practices to support policy development and continuous improvement initiatives.

Assist in tracking mandatory training, certifications, and compliance-related requirements.

Knowledge & Skills:

Knowledge of Métis culture and a commitment to promoting diversity, inclusion, and cultural awareness in the workplace.

Excellent organizational and time‑management skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

Strong written and verbal communication skills with a professional, respectful approach.

High level of discretion and professionalism when handling confidential information.

Detail-oriented, dependable, and proactive.

Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.

Customer‑service mindset with a collaborative approach to supporting employees and the HR team.

Qualifications:

Must be currently enrolled in the 2026/2027 Edwards Co-operative Program.

Currently pursuing a major in Human Resources or Management.

Proficient in Microsoft 365 (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams).

Additional Requirements:

A valid Saskatchewan driver’s license and/or access to reliable transportation to our downtown location would be required.

The successful candidate must undergo a Criminal Record Check.

Physical requirements for this position require greater than 25% of the time sitting.
