Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. We are also building new and improved rapid transit, including GO Expansion, Light Rail Transit routes, and major expansions to Toronto’s subway system, to get people where they need to go, better, faster and easier. Our Finance - Capital Projects Group (CPG) Operating team is looking for a Co-op Student to support operating budget planning, quarterly forecasting, financial analysis, and reporting activities for Capital Projects Group.
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Finance - CPG Operating, you will work closely with finance professionals and business partners across the organization to help support budgeting, forecasting, expense management, and continuous improvement initiatives. This role provides an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in financial planning and analysis within a large public sector organization.
What will I be doing?
- Support the CPG Operating team in tracking financial goals, performance measures, and key reporting activities.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to collect data, respond to inquiries, and support financial planning processes.
- Assist with the extraction, validation, and analysis of month-end operating expenditure data.
- Support the development of financial templates and supporting assumptions for annual budget planning and quarterly forecasting activities.
- Assist in reviewing operating expenses and applying appropriate accounting classifications and financial procedures.
- Analyze financial and operational data to support decision-making and reporting requirements.
- Identify opportunities to improve processes, reporting tools, and data management practices.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance efficiency and reporting accuracy.

What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?
Required
- Currently enrolled full-time in a recognized post-secondary co-op program and eligible to complete a co-op work term as part of your academic requirements, with plans to return to school following the work term.
- Enrolled in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, Mathematics, Commerce, or a related field.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
Assets
- Interest in Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A), budgeting, forecasting, or public sector accounting.
- Experience working with large datasets and financial analysis.
- Familiarity with Power BI or other reporting and data visualization tools.
- Knowledge of accounting principles or financial reporting concepts.
- Previous academic, volunteer, work, or co-op experience involving financial analysis, reporting, budgeting, or data management.
