Original job description

Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. We are also building new and improved rapid transit, including GO Expansion, Light Rail Transit routes, and major expansions to Toronto’s subway system, to get people where they need to go, better, faster and easier. Metrolinx is an agency of the Government of Ontario.

Our Stations team with our CPG – GO/UP division is looking for a Director, Construction Management Field to join the team. You will provide strategic leadership and direction of capital infrastructure encompassing New and existing Stations for GO Transit within the Barrie rail corridor. You will work closely with and provide leadership to the Project Delivery Team (PDT), Contractors and Corridor Leads on the GO Expansion program.

What will I be doing?

Lead the field construction management planning and program initiatives to achieve organizational service construction delivery goals, objectives, and priorities on time and on budget.
Provide leadership and direction in developing the field construction management performance plan, including identifying and establishing Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and overseeing the monitoring, trend, forecast and leading practices to ensure the construction planning functions meet current and future customer service levels requirements.
Provide leadership and oversight to develop innovative changes/improvements and best practices for Construction Management Office (CMO) internal processes and policies.
Represent the field construction management at meetings with stakeholders, such as consultants, vendors, Metrolinx executives, and senior management, to provide construction input and expertise associated with major service improvement projects or service extensions.
Establish processes, controls, and measures to ensure appropriate expense allocation, cost management, and overall fiscal responsibility while providing management with status and financial reports.

What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?

Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Planning, or Architecture field or a related field, specialized certification, or a combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent.
Demonstrated experience progressively in more senior roles leading construction management teams in the public or private sector, with a strong preference for the rail sector: stations, tracks, bridges, overhead catenary systems, signaling or communications.
Experienced in construction management, contracts administration, fieldwork, and construction inspections.
Experience in the consultancy industry is highly valued.
PMI’s PMP Certification would be an asset. A valid Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) license recognized by the Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO) is an asset.
Expert oral and written communication skills and proven ability to create and deliver persuasive and engaging presentations to our industry's audiences.
Expert knowledge of prevailing construction means and methods in the specialty area, including construction contract law and multiple contract types, innovative delivery methods, technology, planning, delivery, and site logistics.
Ability to work creatively and analytically in a problem-solving environment by ensuring effective teamwork, promotion of innovation, and overall excellence.
Keen eye for detail and adept problem-solving abilities with a track record for meeting deadlines.
Demonstrated functional acumen to support how solutions will address internal client goals while maintaining alignment with industry best practices.
Proficient with key industry/professional trends through networking and Continued Professional Development (CPD) and ability to update colleagues, internal clients, and external parties on industry trends.
A valid driver’s license is required to travel to various project locations, public meetings, etc. (approximately 5%). Must meet and maintain the corporate standard for a good driving record.
