Original job description

12 months temporary opportunity

Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. We are also building new and improved rapid transit, including GO Expansion, Light Rail Transit routes, and major expansions to Toronto’s subway system, to get people where they need to go, better, faster and easier. Metrolinx is an agency of the Government of Ontario.

At Metrolinx, equity, diversity and inclusion are essential to living our values of serving with passion, thinking forward and playing as a team.

PRESTO is an electronic transit fare payment system in the Greater Toronto, Hamilton and Ottawa areas that eliminates the need for tickets, passes and cash. PRESTO serves more than 5 million customers across 11 transit agencies and processes over $2.5 billion in fares through 67 million boardings per month (pre-pandemic). Today, PRESTO offers one of the most globally advanced fare payment systems in the world having delivered new ways to pay for customers, including real time PRESTO Contactless with credit and Interac debit and PRESTO in Mobile Wallet across its transit agency clients, including the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC). Enhancing the customer experience through continuous improvement while working with our transit agency clients to support their needs, and maintaining a system that performs exceptionally, continue to drive PRESTO toward making transit better for all.

Our Payments (PRESTO) Finance Operations Department is seeking a Financial Operations Analyst, reporting to the Assistant Manager, Financial Reconciliations. This position performs a variety of tasks to support the Payments (PRESTO) Finance Operations’ Reconciliation and Exceptions team, including general ledger account reconciliation, exception transaction analysis and settlement, month-end/year-end closing activities, and ad-hoc financial analysis.

What will I be doing?

Perform daily, weekly and monthly reconciliation and control points, to ensure funds are balanced and settled with customer and transit agencies accurately; create general ledger adjustments or manual settlements as required.
Participate in month-end and year-end activities including General Ledger account reconciliation, financial reports reconciliation and journal entries preparation.
Analyze, investigate, uncover and resolve process exceptions, out-of-balance situations, and other operational finance incidents, as required and follow up to ensure timely and accurate resolution of the exceptions.
Analyze and/or reconcile various internal and external reports to ensure the completeness and integrity of the integrated reports (e.g., data extracts, financial system reports, third party reports).
Collaborate and interact with internal and/or external business partners and transit agencies, including regular reporting, and responding to inquiries and information requests.
Ensure financial processes and reconciliations are aligned with established procedures and controls and providing recommendations for improvements.
Support annual audit by providing samples/evidence by the deadline upon request.

What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?

Completion of a diploma in Business, Finance, Accounting or a related discipline or any combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent.
Designated as or pursuing a designation as a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) or related accreditation would be considered an asset.
Demonstrated experience in a financial services or payment industry performing reconciliation, booking journals to the general ledger and month-end within an accounting department.
Strong time management and analytical skills, and proven organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and take direction from or work with multiple parties in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Experience working with large sets of data demonstrated by proficiency with MS Excel and strong working knowledge of MS SQL Server.
Advanced proficiency in MS Excel, with strong working knowledge of MS Access, MS PowerPoint, MS Visio, MS SQL Server, and other MS Office software. Experience with MS Dynamics would be an asset.

Don’t Meet Every Requirement?

If you’re excited about working with Metrolinx but your past experience doesn’t quite align with every qualification of this posting, we encourage you to apply. You just might be the right candidate for this or other roles. We are always looking for great talent to join our team.
