Original job description

Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. We are also building new and improved rapid transit, including GO Expansion, Light Rail Transit routes, and major expansions to Toronto’s subway system, to get people where they need to go, better, faster and easier. Our Strategy and Business Services team within the Bus division is hiring a Senior Business Analyst who will provide dedicated financial and business analysis support, strengthening the division’s ability to understand, manage and forecast its financial position. Working closely with operational leaders, the role will lead divisional budgets, forecasts, variance analysis, and business cases, and serve as the key operational interface with Corporate Finance. This role complements Corporate Finance by providing the detailed understanding of Bus operations and cost drivers needed to support accurate financial planning, reporting and decision-making. It is critical to strengthening financial oversight, identifying budget pressures early and ensuring Bus Services effectively manages its financial commitments.

What will I be doing?

Partner with Bus Services operational leaders to develop, manage and monitor divisional budgets, forecasts, and financial plans, ensuring alignment with operational priorities and strategic objectives.
Oversight of the annual budget, forecasting and long-term financial planning processes for the Bus Services division, identifying risks, trends, and opportunities to improve cost efficiency and governance.
Create and apply reporting templates, analytical models, and automated processes to monitor business critical results, support data-driven decision-making and meet all corporate standards.
Lead annual financial and budget planning for the Bus Services Division.
Communicate on a regular basis with key stakeholders, especially with executives, on the progress of financial performance, forecast updates, risks, opportunities, and key initiatives affecting Bus Services.
Develop a network of cross-functional relationships to support information gathering and analysis.
Support various corporate initiatives including Business Continuity Planning, records management, and facilities management.
Promote innovation and encourage the adoption of best practices based on industry and business knowledge, while ensuring stability to operational integrity and governance requirements that enhance operational efficiency and financial stewardship.
Support continuous improvement projects through the provision of strategic advice, data analysis, and data-driven recommendations.

What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?

Post-secondary degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, Math or Commerce, or a related discipline – or a combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent.
Demonstrated experience as a Business, Data or Financial Analyst
Knowledge of business practices, financial analysis; understanding of the financial and accounting impact of business processes to evaluate all business activities (e.g. audit, legal, and reporting requirements)
Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills to present in a clear and compelling manner commentary, reports, and presentations to senior management.
Ability to use critical judgement to make decisions and solve problems involving various levels of complexity, ambiguity, and risk.
