Original job description

Build the Opportunity Before You Build the Project.

Join a well-established construction management / general contracting firm with 25+ years of success, a strong reputation in the market, and a growing pipeline of work.

Specializing in complex healthcare and institutional construction, the company delivers renovations, expansions and interior projects where detailed planning, accurate estimating and strong coordination are essential.

This is an opportunity for an Estimator to build on their technical expertise while gaining a broader understanding of the business side of construction. Working closely with the internal team, subcontractors, suppliers and clients, you'll help develop competitive bids, contribute to bid strategy and see how opportunities move from initial pursuit through to project award.

What You'll Do

With your solid foundation in construction estimating, you'll take an active role in developing accurate, competitive pricing while gaining insight into the commercial and strategic decisions that help win work.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Reviewing drawings, specifications and tender documents to understand project requirements and identify potential challenges.
  • Completing detailed quantity takeoffs and preparing cost estimates, applying your knowledge of construction methods, materials and pricing.
  • Soliciting, reviewing and leveling subcontractor and supplier pricing to develop accurate, competitive estimates.
  • Developing scopes of work and identifying gaps, exclusions, discrepancies and potential project risks before they become costly issues.
  • Supporting bid strategy, cost analysis and proposal preparation, gaining a better understanding of how pricing, risk and competitiveness influence bidding decisions.
  • Working with project teams, consultants, subcontractors and suppliers to clarify scope, coordinate pricing and build strong working relationships.
  • Participating in pre-construction activities from the initial opportunity through tender submission and project award, gaining exposure to the full pursuit process.
  • Tracking upcoming opportunities and maintaining estimating and project information to support the team's broader pre-construction efforts.

Much of the work involves complex healthcare and institutional renovations, expansions and interior projects. Your ability to look beyond the drawings, consider existing conditions and construction phasing, and anticipate the practical challenges that affect cost and execution will be particularly valuable.

Why This Opportunity?

You'll be joining an established firm with a strong market reputation, an experienced team and a growing pipeline of projects.

This role offers more than the opportunity to sharpen your estimating skills. You'll gain exposure to the business decisions behind construction projects, from evaluating opportunities and developing bid strategies to working with clients and understanding what it takes to win work. You'll collaborate with experienced professionals, build relationships with trade partners and develop a broader perspective on how projects come together before they reach the site.

If you enjoy the technical side of estimating but are curious about the bigger picture and want to expand your understanding of the construction business, this could be a great next step.
