Position Overview

This is an exciting opportunity for an innovative, creative and experienced Behaviour Technician to join the Extensive Needs Service, a new program for individuals up to the age of 18, whose needs cannot be met in a single service stream and who require an integrated approach across Mental, Behavioural and Developmental Health. While this is primarily a clinical role, there will be opportunity to work with other members of an interprofessional team to develop and implement the Behavioural Technician role based on best practices and evidence. Working closely with a supervising Behaviour Therapist, the Behavioural Technician will provide trauma-informed and compassionate behavioural intervention to children, youth and families with extensive needs such as co-occurring medical, physical and developmental complexities and/or social vulnerabilities.

The Behaviour Technician will support the ENS team and patients on the T7E Child and Youth Inpatient Mental Health Unit, as needed.

EDUCATION

College diploma or undergraduate degree in a field related to behavioural science, psychology, child and youth work, or social services.
Registered Behaviour Technician certification considered an asset.

Qualifications

Demonstrated knowledge of Applied Behaviour Analysis principles and a minimum of two years’ experience implementing them considered a strong asset.
Experience supporting children and youth with neurodevelopmental conditions, acquired brain injury, and/or mental health conditions.
Experience providing services to children and youth with varying abilities who engage in severe interfering behaviours including aggression, self-injury, property destruction, etc.
Demonstrated experience providing parent training and coaching.
Demonstrated ability to collaborate with and communicate effectively with clients, families, Behaviour Therapist, and members of the interprofessional team.
Strong initiative skills, demonstrated through the ability to make quick decisions, resolve conflict, and adapt to changing work environments.
Good work and attendance record required.
All employees of Michael Garron Hospital (MGH), a division of Toronto East Health Network (TEHN) [formerly Toronto East General Hospital (TEGH)] agree to work within the legislated practices of the Occupational Health and Safety Act of Ontario.
All employees of MGH are responsible to contribute to a transparent culture of patient and staff safety by adhering to and abiding by patient and staff safety policies and procedures set by MGH.
All employees are accountable for protecting the psychological health and safety of themselves and their co-workers through adherence to MGH's policies and practices.

At Michael Garron Hospital, we strive to be an equitable and inclusive employer. We encourage candidates from Black, First Nations, Métis and Inuit, racialized and LGBTQ2S+ communities, people of colour, women, people with disabilities and individuals who identify with the diverse communities that we serve, to join the MGH team.

Through our values of Compassion, Respect, Integrity, Inclusion and Courage, Michael Garron Hospital is committed to providing accessible employment practices that are in compliance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) and Ontario Human Rights Code (OHRC).
