Original job description
Michael Garron Hospital (MGH) is undergoing a safety transformative journey to become a High Reliability Organization (HRO) that consistently delivers safe, high-quality care by anticipating risks, learning from experiences, and strengthening the systems and practices that support patient and staff safety. This work involves engaging healthcare providers, leaders, and staff across the organization to embed high reliability principles into everyday practice and build a culture of continuous learning andimprovement.
This role provides an opportunity for Clinical Externs to gain valuable experience in healthcare operations, quality improvement, patient safety, and corporate project work while contributing to MGH’s journey toward becoming a High Reliability Organization.

The role is intended to provide meaningful, structured work that can be completed within a flexible, part-time schedule. Externs will contribute to ongoing HRO initiatives while developing transferable skills in communication, organization, project coordination, data management, quality improvement, and professional collaboration.
Externs will be hired on contract and will be required to work a minimum of two 8-hour weekday shifts per 2-week pay period. This role is primarily scheduled during day shifts. Evening or night shifts may be scheduled on an as-needed basis to support specific HRO activities, education sessions, or program requirements.
