Overview

Microsoft’s Azure Data engineering team is transforming analytics through products including Microsoft Fabric, Azure SQL Database, Azure Cosmos DB, Azure Database for PostgreSQL, Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Service Bus, Azure Event Grid, and Power BI. Our mission is to build the data platform for the age of AI, powering a new class of data-first applications and driving a data culture.

Within Microsoft Fabric, the Real-Time Intelligence team enables organizations to act on data as it happens. By combining real-time ingestion, streaming, event processing, and observability signals, the team delivers capabilities that help customers detect patterns, respond to events, and drive immediate action. These experiences are tightly integrated into Fabric to support modern applications and operational decision-making in real time.

The Eventstream team owns the connectivity and streaming foundation that brings real-time data into Microsoft Fabric. Eventstream helps customers ingest, transform, and route high-volume event data from Apache Kafka, event brokers, messaging systems, and other sources.

We are hiring a Principal Product Manager to lead the Eventstream Kafka endpoint product area. This role will own the strategy, roadmap, delivery, competitive positioning, and customer engagement for the area. The role requires technical depth in messaging and streaming, along with product management expertise to improve platform reliability, increase adoption, and design experiences for customers building real-time and AI-powered applications.

Responsibilities

Own the product vision, strategy, roadmap, and success measures for Eventstream's Kafka endpoint area, connecting short-term delivery plans with the long-term growth of Fabric Real-Time Intelligence.
Lead the area from customer discovery through general availability and growth, making investment and prioritization decisions across platform capabilities, user experience, reliability, scale, and interoperability.
Partner with Engineering, Design, Data Science, Security, and other teams to deliver a compelling Kafka-compatible solution.
Develop a competitive strategy using customer insights, product telemetry, and market analysis to guide product decisions.
Build relationships with customers and partners, translate streaming requirements into product direction, and use previews and design partnerships to validate solutions before broad release.
Drive adoption and business outcomes through product positioning, field readiness, technical storytelling, and go-to-market planning, while defining AI-assisted experiences that make real-time data easier to connect, manage, and use.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree AND 8+ years experience in product/service/program management or software development OR equivalent experience.

Other Requirements

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements is required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to, the following specialized security screenings:

Microsoft Cloud Background Check

This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred/Additional Qualifications

8+ years of experience taking a product, service, or experience from strategy through launch and growth.
Demonstrated experience owning a broad product area, including strategy, roadmap, delivery, competitive positioning, customer engagement, and business outcomes.
Knowledge of Apache Kafka, Kafka-compatible protocols, Azure Event Hubs, messaging systems, or similar event-streaming technologies.
Demonstrated technical depth in distributed systems, messaging, real-time ingestion, or stream processing, including the ability to navigate reliability, scale, latency, and interoperability tradeoffs with engineering teams.
Experience using product telemetry, customer research, and market analysis to improve adoption, engagement, retention, or other product outcomes.
Experience defining user experiences for technical products, including AI-assisted or low-code experiences.
Communication and technical storytelling skills, with experience influencing senior stakeholders and aligning teams across organizational boundaries.
