Reports to: Customer Success Manager
Salary: $70,000 CAD
ROLE OVERVIEW
The Account Manager is the strategic owner of client relationships at Midnight Marketing. You are responsible for every aspect of the client experience: from onboarding and campaign planning through execution oversight, relationship management, retention, and long-term account growth.
You are responsible for ensuring every client has a clear marketing direction. You set the strategy, direct your Marketing Coordinators on execution, and are the primary point of accountability for the quality and consistency of everything that leaves your pod.
This is an autonomous role requiring excellent judgment, strong leadership, and the ability to make confident decisions in ambiguous situations. You act independently within your authority, escalate appropriately when needed, and operate with a mindset of consistency over urgency.
You lead a team of Marketing Coordinators who execute on the deliverables you direct. Their people development and management sits with the People & Culture Manager; your responsibility is their day-to-day work direction, briefing, and quality control.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Client communication & relationship management
Serve as the primary point of contact for your assigned client portfolio, owning the relationship, communication cadence, and client experience end to end.
Review and sign off on Monday/Friday recap emails and all client-facing communications before they are sent; own all additional client communication directly.
Ensure all client communications are replied to within one hour, either directly or by delegating to the relevant MC.
Lead all strategic client calls; delegate agenda preparation and asset approval calls to MCs as appropriate with clear briefing.
Conduct monthly KPI and analytic reviews with clients, presenting performance insights and optimization recommendations.
Onboard new clients smoothly, setting clear expectations and strong working rhythms from day one.
Monitor client satisfaction, engagement, and account health continuously, gathering feedback and addressing risks before clients notice them.
Resolve routine issues independently within your authority; escalate matters involving retention risk, scope, pricing, contracts, major delivery failures, or resource constraints promptly and with a clear summary, actions taken, and recommendation.
Identify upsell, expansion, and retention opportunities and flag them to the Director of Client Services.
Campaign strategy & planning
Own campaign strategy and planning documentation for all accounts in your portfolio, ensuring every client has a clear and current marketing direction.
Book and lead brainstorms as needed; translate client business goals into actionable marketing initiatives with clear deliverables.
Create and complete campaign mapping and pitches, including mapping all campaign deliverables and writing task overviews for MCs to brief internal teams.
Lead client strategy pitches, presenting recommendations confidently and connecting deliverables back to larger campaign objectives.
Set client and internal deadlines for all tasks, creating posting calendars and ensuring campaign schedules are realistic and tracked.
Collaborate with Growth specialists when deeper expertise is required; ensure every recommendation aligns with the client's goals, budget, and long-term vision.
Review campaign performance proactively and bring optimization recommendations to clients before they ask.
Execution oversight & MC direction
Run a daily morning standup with your MCs: MC presents their plan for the day, you reprioritize as needed, bottlenecks are addressed, and client feedback is discussed.
Direct MCs on all execution tasks, ensuring briefs are clear, deadlines are understood, and quality expectations are explicit.
For more complex deliverables (Brand Assessment, Web, 3D, SEO/paid ads, Shoots), take a more active role in task briefing and QC given the higher stakes and technical requirements.
Conduct a final QC review of all assets before client review, ensuring output is accurate, complete, on-brand, and aligned with the approved brief.
Coach MCs through client situations and execution challenges, holding them accountable while maintaining trust and confidence.
Identify workflow inefficiencies within your pod and remove barriers that slow execution; create systems that improve consistency over time.
Provide regular feedback that builds MC confidence, communication skills, and performance; celebrate wins and flag performance concerns to the People & Culture Manager when appropriate.
Approve MC PTO and manage vacation planning to ensure client accounts are covered.
Internal tools, resources & escalation
Ensure project management tools are up to date across your portfolio with full visibility into timelines, statuses, priorities, approvals, etc.
Conduct a weekly check that freelance budgets are on track.
Coordinate with department leads (Growth, Podcasts, Creative, Web & Brand) to initiate large-scale or cross-department projects, ensuring alignment and resource availability.
Pull in additional resources (leaders, specialists) for client calls or challenging project involvement as needed.
Request client estimates for out-of-scope projects
Help resolve freelance issues or assigning bottlenecks and escalate as needed.
Flag client concerns to leadership with proposed solutions
Verify that all services included in each client's monthly package are being delivered, including paid ads, SEO, and 3D where applicable.
Ensure AI tools and the Midnight Slack agent are actively leveraged across your pod to support efficiency.
Contribute to process improvements and share learnings with the broader AM team.
