Mikelle Search Group has partnered with an established international organization to recruit a Senior Tax Accountant for its Calgary-based team. This is a growing business with an exceptional leadership team and a strong culture.
This is a unique opportunity for an experienced accounting and tax professional who enjoys a broader role combining tax compliance, financial reporting, month-end accounting and process improvement. Rather than operating solely within a traditional tax function, this position offers exposure across the finance organization while working closely with senior finance and tax leadership on both Canadian and cross-border matters.
The Role
The Senior Tax Accountant will be responsible for day-to-day accounting and tax activities, ensuring transactions and filings are completed accurately and in accordance with applicable requirements. This individual will also play an important role in financial reporting, month-end activities and the continued development of internal controls, accounting practices and processes.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Prepare and file indirect tax returns, including GST, PST, HST, sales and use tax, and other applicable compliance filings.
- Assist with corporate income tax returns, current and future tax provisions, and intercompany transactions.
- Manage the preparation, reconciliation, calculation, filing and payment of applicable tax returns.
- Ensure tax-related transactions are accurately reflected as part of the month-end close.
- Support accounting entries, trial balance accuracy and general financial reporting.
- Process and reconcile bank transactions and support accurate cash-position reporting.
- Analyze financial information and prepare reports for internal and external stakeholders.
- Identify and assess potential tax implications related to business transactions.
- Support the preparation of annual financial statements.
- Partner with finance and tax leadership on special projects, internal controls and continuous process improvements.
What We’re Looking For
- 5+ years of Canadian tax experience.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles, procedures and practices.
- Experience with both direct and indirect tax.
- Experience preparing GST, PST and sales/use tax returns.
- Experience with current and future tax provisions.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to work independently and take ownership of responsibilities.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build relationships across an organization.
- Advanced Excel skills and experience working with a large ERP/accounting system.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a well-established international organization while becoming part of a growing Calgary team. The company offers a fantastic culture, exceptional leadership, and a highly competitive compensation and benefits package.
