The Plumber Supervisor leads a team of five licensed plumbers responsible for the plumbing, pipefitting, and HVAC systems that keep Capitol Complex buildings safe, code-compliant, and running efficiently. This position combines full supervisory authority, staffing, discipline, evaluations, and workflow management - with hands-on trades work, ensuring both the shop's people and its projects meet the highest standards of quality and safety.
Job Duties Include
- Inspect job sites - including outside contractor work - for plumbing code compliance across Capitol Complex facilities
- Maintain, repair, and install plumbing, HVAC, and related systems (fixtures, water heaters, fire sprinklers, gas piping, backflow prevention, and more)
- Respond to emergency repairs (frozen/broken pipes, HVAC failures, gas issues) with minimal disruption to building occupants
- Review project plans and specifications, recommend improvements, and ensure completed work meets code and specification
- Lead the shop's preventive maintenance and safety programs, including OSHA compliance and specialty inspections (RPZ testing, fire suppression, etc.)
Minimum Qualifications
To be qualified for and considered for this position, applicants must meet all of the minimum qualifications listed below. - One (1) year supervisory or lead work experience within the last five (5) years over one or more skilled trades effectively giving verbal and written work instructions and directing and critiquing the work of subordinate staff.
- Current Master Plumber license issued by the State of MN.
- Current Backflow Prevention Certification (Applicants who do not currently possess Backflow Prevention Certification must obtain one within one year of hire).
- Current City of St. Paul Certificate of Competency as a Master Plumber (Applicants who do not currently possess this Certification must obtain within one year of hire)
- Driver's license and acceptable driving record.
- Computer skills sufficient to utilize Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Archibus work order management system or similar work order system.
- Knowledge of current plumbing, sanitary foundation, high pressure piping, fire sprinkler, and HVAC building codes.
- Experience with public water supply systems and/or water operator licensure of a class D or larger system.
- Ability to obtain backflow preventor certification for testing and rebuilding within 1 year of employment.
Physical Requirements
Successful candidate must pass: pre-employment physical (CRT TEST REQUIREMENT MINIMUM IS MEDIUM, EX: ABLE TO LIFT 36-50 LBS FREQUENTLY 1-100 REPS AN HOUR)
