REPORTS TO: Director of eCommerce

LOCATION: Toronto or Montreal

SALARY RANGE: $75,000 to $85,000

Position Summary

If you live for sports, culture and style, this role puts you right at the center of it. This is a rare kind of ownership: we are seeking an eCommerce Merchant to lead the Canadian direct-to-consumer (DTC) assortment and merchandising for New Era. You'll own what to sell, when it launches, and how it's presented, making assortment and buy calls within your own open-to-buy (OTB), set by leadership and aligned with the brand's Product Line Manager and wholesale team.

Success in this role requires someone who understands how sports moments, team performance and fan passion translate into product demand.

It also means keeping a genuine pulse on where sports, style and culture are heading next, not just what's trending in-season, but what's coming around the corner, so the assortment feels ahead of the market instead of chasing it.

Key Responsibilities

Assortment Strategy & Merchandising

Own the DTC assortment for New Era in Canada. Using market trends, site performance and wholesale/buying insight to shape what sells online, including team/league-level product and “hot market” opportunities tied to sports moments.
Coordinate with the buying/wholesale team to align DTC assortment decisions with the overall line plan, pricing and inventory availability.
Build the merchandising plan for each drop, deciding how products are grouped, featured and presented (collections, categories, navigation, PDP hierarchy).
Build onsite merchandising opportunities, including cross-sell and up-sell placements (related products, bundles, PDP and cart recommendations).

Assortment Planning, Forecasting & Inventory Management

Make buy and assortment decisions within the open-to-buy parameters set by the leadership.
Maintain a SKU-level forecast as an output of the assortment and launch plan, in coordination with the buying/wholesale team.
Monitor sell-through, inventory position and site performance, and adjust the assortment, buy and launch timing accordingly within OTB.
Set up and maintain products in Shopify, and keep product data, pricing, availability and categorization accurate and current across the site.

Launch Execution & Promotional Planning

Partner with the Director, Ecommerce to set the release, content and promotional calendar for New Era. Categorizing product drops as key stories (major moments), seasonal collections or everyday/always-on assortment and setting the timing for each.
Determine on-site promotional placement for the category and sign off on promotional content and messaging accuracy.
Partner with the Planning & Launch Coordinator to ensure every launch has the assets, timelines and cross-functional inputs it needs.
Work with Retention and Paid Media to align merchandising moments with email/SMS campaigns and ad flighting.

Skills And Experience

3+ years of experience in ecommerce merchandising, buying or assortment planning, ideally in apparel, headwear, or licensed sports/lifestyle product.
Experience managing a SKU-level forecast and/or an open-to-buy budget.
Comfortable owning both commercial (assortment/buy within OTB) and operational (site merchandising, promotional sign-off) decisions for a brand.
Experience with Shopify or a similar ecommerce platform, including setting up and publishing products; comfort with product data and PIM tools (e.g., Airtable) is an asset.
Strong analytical skills; able to read sell-through and inventory data and act on it.
Highly organized, with the ability to manage a launch calendar with multiple moving parts.
Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
A genuine interest in sports lifestyle and culture, not just team fandom; comfortable spotting and acting on emerging style and cultural trends.
Foundational AI literacy, including experience using generative AI tools, and a proactive mindset to experiment with new technologies to drive productivity and innovation.
