Mitrex is Canada’s only S134 / NFPA 285-certified manufacturer of Building-Integrated Photovoltaics (BIPV). We manufacture solar facades, cladding, railings, roof panels, and noise barriers that turn building envelopes into clean energy generators, and our work has earned a Guinness World Record. Cladify is our rainscreen and architectural cladding systems brand. We manufacture ventilated rainscreen assemblies in porcelain, ACM, and stone-composite materials - along with subframing systems like Cladishield - that give architects design flexibility without compromising building envelope performance. Mitrex holds ISO 9001, ISO 10002 and ISO 10004 certifications - the only BIPV manufacturer to do so.

Together, our projects range from healthcare and education campuses to high-rise residential and infrastructure. We deliver to general contractors as a supply partner and, on select projects, as a supply-and-install partner.

Position Summary

We're looking for a Head of Engineering to lead the technical side of the business across both Mitrex (BIPV) and Cladify (rainscreen). You'll lead our design and drafting team, with the Design Lead reporting to you, and be the licensed engineer who reviews, signs off and stamps the shop drawings our factory and installers build from. You'll own technical direction on our projects, including ISD approval, and lead R&D and new product development as we expand both product lines.

This is a senior, hands-on leadership role for a licensed P.Eng with deep façade and building envelope experience - someone who is comfortable putting their stamp on delegated-design work, setting the technical standard for a growing team, and shaping the next generation of our products.

Job Responsibilities

Team Leadership

• Lead the design and drafting team, with the Design Lead reporting directly to you; set technical standards, priorities and quality expectations across both Mitrex and Cladify projects

• Develop the team: coach the Design Lead and drafters, build engineering capability in-house, and plan resourcing as project volume grows

• Act as the senior technical escalation point for the team, project management, production and clients

Engineering Review, Sign-Off & Stamping

• Review, sign off and stamp shop drawings, calculations and engineering deliverables for Mitrex BIPV façades and Cladify rainscreen systems as the engineer responsible for delegated design

• Ensure drawings and designs meet applicable codes, standards and project specifications, and that delegated-design responsibilities are met on every project

• Own ISD approval on projects and ensure the engineering package is complete and correct before release to fabrication

• Build and manage a roster of external stamping engineers for jurisdictions where you are not licensed (other provinces, US states)

Technical Direction on Projects

• Own technical direction on projects from award through fabrication and installation, including attachment systems, subframing, interfaces with adjacent trades, and electrical integration on BIPV projects

• Resolve technical questions from architects, consultants, general contractors and authorities having jurisdiction, and defend engineering decisions where required

• Support certification and compliance requirements (e.g. UL, IEC, ESA) tied to product and project approvals

• Run our design process: internal kickoff, ISD and ISD review, then shop drawings, with a maximum of three client submission rounds and all internal errors resolved before submission.

R&D & New Product Development

• Lead R&D and new product development across both brands - from concept and prototyping through testing, certification and release to production

• Drive continuous improvement of existing products and systems for performance, manufacturability and cost

• Work with production, sales and project management to bring new products to market and support them in the field

Qualifications

• Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng) with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) in good standing, able to stamp drawings

• 7–10+ years of engineering experience, ideally in façade, building envelope or delegated design

• Knowledge of OBC/NBC and wind-load and anchorage design for cladding, plus working knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit and Inventor

• Product development experience - taking new products or systems from concept to production

• Experience leading a team of engineers, designers or drafters

• Registration in other Canadian provinces and/or a US PE licence is an asset

• Based at our office at 41 Racine Road, Etobicoke (Toronto), ON
