The Opportunity

ML6 is partnering with our client to find a Junior/ Intermediate Process Engineer to join their engineering team. This opportunity is ideal for a technically strong engineer with 2–10 years of process engineering experience who can independently develop process calculations, simulations, and design deliverables for industrial projects.

In this role, you will take ownership of assigned process systems and project work packages, working collaboratively with multidisciplinary engineering teams, clients, and vendors to deliver effective and reliable process designs. You will also contribute to process safety reviews, support projects through implementation, and provide technical guidance to junior team members.

This position offers the opportunity to apply your process engineering expertise across a variety of technical challenges while continuing to develop your capabilities under the guidance of senior engineering professionals.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Develop process design bases, evaluate operating cases, and document design assumptions, process requirements, and utility demands.
  • Perform and document process engineering calculations, including heat and material balances, thermal duties, equipment capacities, and utility consumption.
  • Complete hydraulic evaluations for liquid and gas systems, including line sizing, pressure profiles, pressure losses, pump head, NPSH margins, and control valve pressure-drop requirements.
  • Size process equipment, including pumps, heat exchangers, vessels, and separators, and prepare equipment datasheets. Review vendor proposals and resolve process-related technical queries.
  • Size control valves and flow elements, establish process conditions and operating ranges for instrumentation, and perform pressure-relief sizing with senior review where required.
  • Develop and validate steady-state process simulations using Aspen HYSYS or equivalent software, verifying assumptions, property methods, model convergence, material balances, and operating sensitivities.
  • Prepare and maintain Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Heat and Material Balances (HMBs), stream tables, equipment lists, line lists, and utility summaries.
  • Develop and revise Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), including control loops, alarms, interlocks, safeguards, isolation requirements, bypasses, drains, vents, and equipment interfaces.
  • Participate in HAZOP reviews as the process engineering representative for assigned systems, explaining design intent, assessing deviations and safeguards, and addressing assigned action items.
  • Contribute to operating philosophies, control philosophies, and control narratives, working with senior engineers and the instrumentation and controls team to define operating modes, control objectives, alarms, and interlock requirements.
  • Collaborate with clients, vendors, and multidisciplinary engineering teams to coordinate design deliverables and resolve technical issues.
  • Support field verification, troubleshooting, commissioning activities, and responses to construction-related technical queries.
  • Estimate engineering hours for assigned work, plan deliverables, monitor progress, and communicate changes to project scope or schedule.
  • Provide technical guidance to junior engineers and review routine calculations and documentation within your area of responsibility.
  • Ensure deliverables meet applicable project quality procedures, client specifications, and technical standards, obtaining senior review and approval as required.

What You’ll Need to Be Successful

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from an accredited engineering program.
  • 2–10 years of relevant process engineering experience in industrial plant design, engineering consulting, plant modifications, or a comparable process design environment.
  • Practical experience with process calculations, heat and material balances, hydraulic evaluations, and process equipment and instrumentation sizing.
  • Proficiency in Aspen HYSYS or equivalent process simulation software, along with hydraulic analysis tools such as AFT Fathom or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated experience developing PFDs, HMBs, and P&IDs and coordinating process design requirements with mechanical, piping, and instrumentation and controls disciplines.
  • Experience preparing equipment and instrument datasheets, evaluating operating limits, and assessing process design requirements.
  • Working knowledge of process control principles, pressure-relief sizing, equipment operating limits, applicable engineering standards, and client specifications.
  • Experience participating in HAZOP reviews, evaluating process hazards, and implementing agreed recommendations into engineering designs.
  • The ability to contribute to operating and control philosophies or control narratives, with appropriate senior guidance.
  • Experience coordinating multidisciplinary engineering deliverables and supporting projects from design through implementation.
  • Strong technical judgment, analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to interpret engineering calculations and simulation results.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with clients, vendors, and internal project teams.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage assigned deliverables, meet project deadlines, and support junior engineers.

Salary Range: $110,000- $125,000
