Job Description: Flight Controls Laws Design Engineer

Experience: 10+ years of relevant experience

Language Requirements: French and English (fluent)

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Flight Controls Laws Design Engineer to develop, enhance, integrate, and validate flight control laws for Fly-By-Wire (FBW) aircraft. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in aircraft flight dynamics, control systems design, MATLAB/Simulink, and C++ programming, along with experience in aircraft stability, handling qualities, and flight control system verification.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and improve new and existing flight control laws (CLaws) and associated assessment tools using MATLAB and C++.
Support flight control laws, autopilot, and navigation system development for R&D projects.
Develop system and flight control laws requirements.
Perform requirements validation and verification (V&V) for new and updated control laws.
Ensure compliance with DO-178B and SAE ARP4754 standards.
Design pilot-in-the-loop control laws based on handling qualities, flight and structural envelope protection, performance requirements, and aircraft-level requirements.
Evaluate flight control laws and Fly-By-Wire system failures, stability, and performance through analytical methods, simulations, simulator testing, and flight-test data.
Integrate flight control laws into test rigs and supplier hardware, including PFCC platforms.
Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams on system integration, testing, and validation.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Aerospace Engineering or a related engineering discipline; PhD preferred.
Minimum 10 years of experience developing flight control laws for Fly-By-Wire (FBW) aircraft.
Strong knowledge of aircraft flight dynamics and aerodynamics.
Expertise in classical and modern control system design techniques for SISO and MIMO systems.
Familiarity with advanced flight control laws design methods and techniques.
Experience evaluating control laws using linear and nonlinear analysis, simulations, and testing procedures.
Strong understanding of aircraft stability, handling qualities, and pilot-in-the-loop control systems.
Knowledge of DO-178B, requirements V&V, and certification of complex software.
Proficiency in MATLAB and Simulink for aircraft modeling, simulation, and control laws development.
Programming experience in MATLAB scripts and C++.
Understanding of state estimation and Kalman filtering.
Fluency in written and spoken French and English.
Strong problem-solving, teamwork, communication, and independent working skills.

Preferred Qualifications

PhD in Aerospace Engineering.
Experience with flight control system integration, simulator testing, and flight-test data analysis.
Experience with aircraft certification and safety-critical avionics software.
Familiarity with supplier hardware integration and flight control computer platforms.
