Job Summary
Reporting to the Director, Research & Administration, the Manager, Simulation Strategy & Health Technologies provides strategic and operational leadership for simulation, immersive technologies, and interprofessional learning initiatives within the School of Health. The role oversees the design, development, implementation, and continuous improvement of simulation programs, virtual and augmented reality (XR) initiatives, and other innovative learning solutions to enhance academic programming and the experiences of students, staff, and faculty.
The Manager leads simulation lab operations, ensuring alignment with institutional strategic priorities by advancing learning innovation, integrating emerging technologies into teaching environments, and supporting high-quality clinical and experiential education.
The role also provides subject-matter expertise to guide the development and execution of immersive technology strategies, including evaluating and recommending XR investments, piloting solutions using an evidence-based approach, and overseeing asset management.
In addition, the Manager is responsible for portfolio budgeting in consultation with the Director, and supports capital planning, resource optimization, and the development of internal and external partnerships. The incumbent fosters communities of practice to share best practices across academic, clinical, and industry settings.
Drawing on professional practice, academic experience, systems expertise, and innovation, the Manager contributes to advancing the School’s strategic vision for experiential and simulation-based education while ensuring high-quality learning environments and effective use of resources and partnerships in support of the College’s strategic plan.
Serves as the School’s principal resource for simulation strategy and emerging health technologies.
What you’ll be doing:
Health Technologies and Simulation Strategy Development
- Develops and provides direction on the School of Health simulation and technology - based learning strategy across all programs, ensuring alignment with academic priorities, industry best practices, and the College’s strategic plan.
- Develops multi-year simulation and immersive technology roadmap.
- Establishes governance framework for simulation and XR implementation.
- Establishes standards and evaluation metrics for simulation programming.
- Ensures all immersive technology and simulation learning activities are inclusive and Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) compliant.
- Identifies, designs, develops, implements, and assesses XR activities, simulation teaching, learning technologies and initiatives.
- Leads internal and external interdisciplinary partnerships, opportunities and committees (i.e. National Simulation Operations Meeting, School of Health Simulation Committee, etc).
- Establishes strategic partnerships with local and national industry and community organizations, facilitating knowledge exchange and mutually beneficial relationships.
- Optimizes simulation lab usage by leading the promotion and coordination of educational experiences throughout the college.
- Attends and actively participates in college, program, and school events and meetings, including Open House, tours, and workshops, etc.
Assets and Capital Management
- Supports the annual budget planning process, in consultation with the Director and Manager, Academic Services and Operations, to support short- and long-term simulation and health technology requirements.
- Monitors the portfolio budgets, including developing budget requests, reviewing costs consistent with the College's financial budgeting cycle and processes and providing reports to the Director.
- Explores both internal and external funding avenues for simulation equipment or technology and develops proposals as required.
- In collaboration with the Director, provides leadership for the procurement of simulation teaching and learning technologies.
- Collaborates with Technical Support Officer, simulation team and Director, to develop a simulation capital planning resource to identify equipment needs.
- Leads the operationalization of simulation best practices including a centralized process for inventory, maintenance, and distribution of equipment and space planning.
- Works with the Centre for Professional Advancement and Continuing Studies to identify opportunities to utilize simulation spaces and equipment for course/workshop deliveries.
Quality Assurance
- Collaborates with academic leaders and stakeholders to review and assess the effectiveness of simulations.
- Continually assesses the effectiveness of XR activities and simulations by soliciting feedback, collaborating with Academic colleagues, and using tools and techniques to measure success.
- Reviews, develops, modifies resource plans, and quality assurance processes.
Professional Development and Research
- Directs the facilitation of training to ensure appropriate use of simulation equipment and laboratory spaces.
- Directs the creation, promotion, and facilitation of learning opportunities for staff and students to enhance their knowledge and skills in health technologies and simulation learning (i.e optional simulation workshops during off-peak times)
- Contributes to the development of programs and opportunities for training in simulation-based education for faculty, practicum clinicians, and academic technologists.
- Leads research activity related to simulation-based learning to remain current in the latest trends and practices in the field.
- Reviews journals, abstracts, and literature in existing and emerging technologies, including underlying education principles, to share current trends with faculty.
- With the support of the Technical Support Officer, conducts research to identify potential vendors, recommend and procure equipment and software to meet the needs and ensure currency of the organization.
- Establishes and maintains a network with the college community, industry, and simulation standards to ensure that the School stays up to date with the latest practices and technology.
Simulation Lab and Staff Leadership
- Ensures the optimal utilization of all simulation spaces, including the Centre for Healthcare Simulation and Research, simulation labs at the Fennell campus, and living classroom environments.
- Recruits, manages, and evaluates staff assigned to the labs to maintain a high standard of performance and quality.
- Provides operational leadership by offering direction, guidance and determining priorities.

What you’ll bring to the role:
- Professional Designation as Registered Healthcare Professional (eg: RPN, RN, OT/PT, CVT, MRT, or related field).
- Minimum five years of related, progressive work experience is required. Required experience in leading simulation and extended reality learning.
- Recognized simulation educator designation, such as Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator, Canadian Certified Simulation Nurse Educators or Simulation Educator Certificate – Keystones.
- Excellent problem-solving, customer service, team building and communication skills.
- Demonstrated critical thinking, analysis and innovation skills are necessary.
- Effective ability to lead, influence, collaborate, negotiate, resolve conflict and manage change.
- Experience in a teaching and learning environment. Knowledge and experience in Health-related equipment, related technologies, advanced computer skills along with curriculum development and supervisory experience required.
- Advanced knowledge of immersive and simulation technology is required.
- Solid skills and experience in human resource management, conflict management, leading change education, using simulation as an adjunct to learning, budget planning, forecasting and resource allocation.
- Demonstrated commitment and understanding of human rights, equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility.
- The ability to communicate and work effectively with diverse students, employees, and communities.
