Job summary:
Under the direction of the Manager, Student Success & Engagement, the Student Engagement & Leadership Program Assistant assists with development, volunteer programs, peer-led initiatives, and co-curricular learning opportunities across the College. The incumbent supports Student Life programming and the operation of the Student Experience Centre through event and program logistics, student communications, social media engagement, volunteer administration, leadership program support, participation tracking, and assessment activities.
This is an in-person position primarily based at the IAHS Campus. Regular hours of work are Monday to Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The incumbent may be required to work at other College campuses and support occasional events or activities outside regular business hours.
What you’ll be doing:
Student Engagement, Programming & Student Experience Centre Support
- Supports the planning and delivery of Student Life programs, events, workshops and student engagement initiatives across the College campuses.
- Supports the day-to-day operation of the Student Experience Centre, helping create a welcoming, inclusive and engaging environment for students.
- Responds to student inquiries and provides information about Student Life programs, events, leadership opportunities, volunteering, peer programs and other ways to get involved at the College.
- Supports peer-led engagement initiatives, including Peer Mentorship, Student Ambassadors/Content Creators and other student leadership and involvement opportunities.
- Coordinates program and event logistics, including room bookings, catering requests, registration processes, materials preparation, supplies, inventory and participant communications.
- Supports the development and scheduling of Student Life communications and promotional materials using approved College platforms and communication channels.
- Creates and publishes approved content for Student Life social media channels to promote events, programs, volunteer opportunities, leadership initiatives and other student engagement opportunities.
- Monitors Student Life social media channels, responds to routine inquiries and escalates questions or concerns as appropriate.
- Supports a consistent Student Life brand, voice and student-centred approach across communications, programming and the Student Experience Centre.
- Provides day-of-event support, including setup, registration, student engagement, troubleshooting and event wrap-up.
- Helps promote opportunities that encourage students to connect, get involved, develop skills and build a sense of belonging at Mohawk.
Volunteer Program Support
- Supports the administration and delivery of Student Life volunteer programs and engagement opportunities.
- Assists with volunteer recruitment, onboarding, orientation, and scheduling.
- Maintains accurate volunteer participation records, databases and program documentation.
- Supports ongoing communication and engagement with student volunteers.
- Assists with volunteer recognition initiatives, appreciation activities and celebration events.
- Supports the delivery of volunteer orientation, training and development opportunities.
- Collects volunteer participation information to support program assessment and reporting.
Leadership Program Support
- Supports student leadership development programs and learning opportunities.
- Coordinates registrations, participant communications, attendance tracking and logistical requirements for leadership programming.
- Assists with leadership workshops, training sessions, conferences, events and recognition activities.
- Maintains accurate records of participation in Student Life leadership programs and initiatives.
- Provides operational and logistical support for the Student Leadership Conference and other signature leadership initiatives.
- Supports the onboarding, communication and engagement of student leaders.
- Supports peer leadership initiatives, including the recruitment, onboarding and ongoing engagement of Peer Mentors, Student Ambassadors and other student leaders.
- Collects participation and feedback information to support assessment of leadership programs and student learning.
Assessment & Administrative Support
- Maintains program records, databases, tracking systems and participation statistics.
- Supports survey administration, student feedback collection and program assessment activities.
- Compiles data and prepares routine reports related to programming, events, volunteering, leadership initiatives and student engagement.
- Tracks engagement measures such as participation, repeat engagement, communication reach and social media activity.
- Assists with maintaining program resources, templates, forms, procedures and administrative systems.
- Provides administrative support related to program supplies, purchasing, invoices and basic budget tracking, as required.
- Supports continuous improvement by collecting and organizing information that helps identify trends, gaps and opportunities in Student Life programming.

What you’ll bring to the role:
- Minimum 3-year diploma/certificate in Business, Office Administration, Human Services, Communications, Education or a related field.
- Minimum 2 years of work experience, preferably in an office, event planning or post-secondary environment. Experience in post-secondary education and student affairs is preferred.
- Experience working independently and exercising sound judgment while supporting multiple programs, events, and competing priorities.
- Ability to multi-task and set priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated ability to problem-solve, organize, prioritize, and adapt effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, including experience developing digital communications and social media content for diverse audiences.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and experience using databases, registration systems, social media platforms, and other digital tools.
- Ability to work collaboratively with students, staff, faculty, and community partners to support student engagement, leadership, and involvement initiatives.
- Demonstrated ability to provide responsive, student-centred service and communicate effectively with students from diverse backgrounds and experiences.
- Demonstrated commitment and understanding of human rights, equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility.
- The ability to communicate and work effectively with diverse students, employees, and communities.
