The Student Experience & Recognition Coordinator will plan, implement, and support events and programs designed to enhance and celebrate student engagement and success across all Mohawk campuses. The incumbent will coordinate and implement post-event evaluations and learning outcome assessment to contribute to the continued cultivation of a strong student engagement and student leader culture college-wide.

Working collaboratively with the Student Life team and with a variety of internal and external stakeholders, the Student Experience & Recognition Coordinator will determine, coordinate, and execute logistical plans for event and program promotion and implementation. The incumbent will demonstrate strong intercultural competencies as well as a commitment to offering inclusive, welcoming events and programs in support of the College’s equity, diversity and inclusion values. This includes compliance with Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) guidelines.

The Student Experience & Recognition Coordinator values team, collaboration, commitment, and intentionality and takes a student-centered approach to their role. They will participate in the functional guidance of College Student Employees (CSEP), student leaders & volunteers.

This position coordinates the Co-Curricular Record, supports a number of other student-centered initiatives within Student Life and cross-functionally across Mohawk College, as well as being the main point of contact within the department for students by managing the departmental email, website, and social media.

Flexible working hours are required including regular evenings and weekends.

What you’ll be doing:

Event Planning

Develops, coordinates, implements and evaluates student recognition and celebration focused events at multiple campuses throughout the year, which includes:
- Student Leadership Conference, Co-Curricular Record, Student Appreciation events, and highlighting student stories.
- Producing appropriate invites and signage for events.
- Coordinating rentals including any pre-visits and onsite vendor interactions.
- Event set-up and take-down.
- Proposing, coordinating and updating promotional materials as required, such as webpages, social media posts and hard copy promotion.
- Coaching and coordinating student staff on executing weekly programming, including shift management, feedback, and logistical support.
Student Leadership Conference, Co-Curricular Record, Student Appreciation events, and highlighting student stories.
Producing appropriate invites and signage for events.
Coordinating rentals including any pre-visits and onsite vendor interactions.
Event set-up and take-down.
Proposing, coordinating and updating promotional materials as required, such as webpages, social media posts and hard copy promotion.
Coaching and coordinating student staff on executing weekly programming, including shift management, feedback, and logistical support.
Ensures that all facility and event requirements adhere to college policies and relevant legislation, following risk management protocols in event planning to protect the health and safety of all participants.
Monitors department web presence, suggesting and implementing updates to all webpages.
Coordinates the social media plan and accounts for the department.
Collects & submit invoices for payment to Financial Manager.
Considers departmental brand, coordinating updated materials such as apparel, giveaways, and prizes.

Reporting & Assessment

Provides post-event reports for student recognition and celebration events, which includes data such as attendance, marketing, planning time and direct student feedback.
Conducts assessment of event learning outcomes and makes recommendations as required to contribute to the cultivation of student engagement and student leader priorities.
Conducts annual program/event assessment and review to provide recommendations to the Manager.

Administrative & Team Support

Supports Student Life team members in the coordination, design, and delivery of tri-campus departmental programs and services (including but not limited to: orientation & transition activities, Co-Curricular Record.
Represents Student Life on committees and at campus/community events in-person/virtually as required.
Champions Student Life and Mohawk programs and events to build positive relationships with students and foster a strong student engagement and student leader culture college-wide.
Provide functional guidance to student staff and volunteers.
Maintain expert knowledge of the full range of college services, important dates, and campus processes.
Work with Marketing and Creative services to ensure assigned program webpages are maintained and updated (on the Student Life website and with the Future Ready Toolkit).
Work with campus stakeholders to promote Student Life activities, services and programs virtually and/or in-person.
Supports creating/curating content for Student Life social media accounts.
Respects confidentiality of student information (verbal and written).
Responds appropriately to students in distress.
Provides clerical support for department staff as required.
Monitors program budgets to ensure accurate spending and reporting.
Captures and archives program and event details (attendance, project plans, promotions, student feedback) to validate student participation on the Co-Curricular Record and to make recommendations to improve outcomes and contribute to cultivation of strong student engagement and student leader culture college-wide.

What you’ll bring to the role:

Minimum 2-year post-secondary education in Event Planning, Hospitality or a similar field; or equivalent combination of Education and Experience.
Minimum 3 years of experience in an educational institution, program delivery or similar setting, dealing with an intercultural, diverse population.
Experience in an event and program delivery environment, preferably in an educational setting with an emphasis on student-centered initiatives.
Experience working independently and solving a wide range of problems. This position requires the ability to work under pressure, handle several projects at once and meet deadlines.
Strong organization, interpersonal and communication skills are essential.
Demonstrated ability to coordinate competing priorities.
Demonstrable public speaking, written & oral communications skills.
Experience building partnership with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
Proven leadership and problem-solving skills.
Demonstrated intercultural competencies & experience working with and among diverse populations.
Demonstrated proficiency in technology and digital engagement
Valid driver’s license.
Experience in Student Development, Student Affairs, Leadership or Volunteer Management would be considered an asset.
Demonstrated commitment and understanding of human rights, equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility.
The ability to communicate and work effectively with diverse students, employees, and communities.
