The Job: Principal Product Designer

To build and govern the shared design foundations that enable product design and engineering to deliver accessible, consistent, reusable, and high-quality customer experiences at scale.

What You’ll Do

Own the strategy, roadmap, architecture, and governance of the Money Mart experience system across digital products and channels.
Define and maintain contribution, review, approval, release, and deprecation processes for components, patterns, variants, and shared experience standards.
Ensure system decisions support long-term scalability across web, app, portal, assisted channels, future U.S. expansion, and evolving brand expressions.
Define accessible interaction standards, design requirements, and reusable acceptance criteria across product design.
Establish guidance for keyboard interaction, focus management, screen readers, text resizing, colour contrast, errors, forms, cognitive load, and assistive-technology behaviour.
Partner with product designers, engineering, QA, compliance, and the UX Lead to identify and resolve material accessibility or customer-risk issues.
Translate brand foundations into scalable digital-product behaviour, including interaction principles, visual language, reusable patterns, and digital theming.
Partner with marketing and brand to maintain consistency while ensuring product design owns how the brand behaves within customer-facing digital products.
Support future multi-brand and market-specific expressions without unnecessarily duplicating the core interaction system.
Partner closely with the design system engineer and product engineering teams to maintain alignment between Figma, design tokens, coded components, Storybook, and production behaviour.
Define experience requirements for component APIs, states, interactions, and accessibility.
Identify and resolve design-to-code discrepancies, duplicated implementation, hard-coded values, and system gaps discovered through product delivery.
Establish shared quality standards for reusable components, interaction patterns, accessibility, and design-system implementation.
Maintain clear documentation and guidance so product designers and engineers understand how to use, contribute to, and evolve the system.
Support design reviews, system contribution reviews, education, and adoption across teams.
Use design QA and implementation evidence to identify recurring quality problems and prioritise improvements.
Coach product designers on system thinking, accessibility, interaction standards, reusable patterns, and contribution practices.
Facilitate Experience Foundations reviews and contribute to design and engineering governance.
Use product evidence, adoption data, quality signals, accessibility findings, and emerging technology to continuously improve the experience system.
Explore responsible AI-assisted workflows where they reduce repetitive work, improve documentation, strengthen quality checks, or support design-to-code consistency without replacing accountable design judgement.

What You’ll Bring to the Table

Required

7+ years of related product design, UX, or interaction-design experience, including substantial senior-level ownership.
Demonstrated experience building, scaling, or governing a design system or shared experience foundation across multiple products or teams.
Experience defining reusable components, interaction patterns, contribution processes, documentation, and governance standards.
Strong practical experience applying accessibility requirements to product design and reusable interaction patterns.
Experience partnering closely with engineering on coded components, design tokens, component behaviour, technical constraints, and design-to-code parity.
Experience influencing multiple teams and stakeholders without relying on formal authority.
Experience identifying systemic design-quality issues and turning them into scalable standards or reusable solutions.
Experience communicating complex design-system and product-quality decisions to product, engineering, marketing, QA, compliance, and leadership.

Desired

Experience in financial services, fintech, insurance, healthcare, or another regulated or high-trust environment.
Experience with large-scale or multi-product design systems.
Experience supporting multiple brands, themes, markets, or localisation requirements.
Experience with Storybook, ZeroHeight, or equivalent design-system documentation and engineering platforms.
Experience establishing accessibility governance or accessible component standards.
Experience mentoring product designers and improving system adoption across teams.
Experience measuring design-system adoption, quality, reuse, accessibility, or implementation efficiency.

Education + Professional Accreditations

Required

Bachelor’s degree in design, human-computer interaction, interaction design, user experience, or a related field, or equivalent relevant professional experience.

Desired

Postgraduate coursework or advanced training in human-computer interaction, accessibility, design systems, service design, interaction design, or digital product strategy.
Accessibility certification or advanced training such as IAAP CPACC/WAS, WCAG/AODA training, or equivalent.
Advanced education or certification related to design systems, interaction design, inclusive design, or product strategy is an asset.

Committed to Equal Opportunity:

MFSG is committed to accommodating applicants up to the point of undue hardship during the recruitment, assessment and selection process. If you are selected for an interview, please notify MFSG if you require accommodation in respect of the materials or procedures used at any time during this process. If you require accommodation, MFSG will work with you to determine how to meet your needs.

About MFSG – Our Commitment to Responsible Innovation

Aligned with the principles outlined in Canada’s Artificial Intelligence and Data Act (AIDA), we take a proactive approach to ensuring that any AI or data-driven systems we use are safe, fair, and accountable.

This posting is for a current position within our organization, offering the opportunity to contribute to meaningful, responsible innovation that supports our employees, clients, and communities.

We prioritize strong data governance, clear communication around how systems work, and safeguards that reduce risks and protect individuals. Our focus is on developing tools and processes that promote equity, reliability, and trust, supported by ongoing monitoring and continuous improvement.

Joining MFSG means contributing to a future-focused organization that values both innovation and integrity, where your work helps shape solutions that responsibly support our employees, clients, and communities.
