Morson Edge is seeking a Pipe Stress Engineer to support the design of a new small modular reactor (SMR) nuclear power plant. In this role, you will develop piping analysis packages from initial design inputs through final, documented results. You will work closely with piping, structural, mechanical, and equipment teams to resolve technical issues and support design decisions.
Responsibilities
- Review piping specifications, isometric drawings, equipment data, support details, operating conditions, seismic inputs, and other design requirements.
- Build and maintain piping subsystem models in PIPESTRESS, including geometry, materials, components, supports, restraints, load cases, and code parameters.
- Use PCF files and Python macros to prepare models, check inputs, automate routine tasks, and process results.
- Perform sustained, thermal expansion, seismic and other dynamic, anchor movement, and project specific load analyses.
- Evaluate piping stresses and loads on supports, nozzles, flanges, penetrations, and equipment interfaces.
- Troubleshoot analysis errors and warnings, reconcile conflicting design inputs, and coordinate resolutions with other engineering disciplines.
- Prepare clear, traceable analysis reports documenting inputs, assumptions, methods, results, conclusions, and the disposition of open items.
- Present technical findings, facilitate discussions, and independently drive assigned work to completion.
Qualifications
- At least five years of piping analysis experience in the nuclear industry.
- Hands-on experience with PIPESTRESS and piping model development.
- Working knowledge of ASME BPVC Section III, Subsection NCD and applicable Appendices, and ASME B31.1.
- Experience interpreting piping drawings, specifications, design loads, and equipment interface requirements.
- Ability to use Python for analysis automation and quality checks.
- Strong technical writing, problem-solving, organization, and communication skills.
