Role: Technician / Technologist

Location: Edmonds, BC (Surrey Service Centre)

Duration: 2026/09/08 - 2027/03/06

Max INC rate: $46/

Max T4 rate: $38.02/

General Description

The T3 - Technician / Technologist Level 3 is a technician or technologist in a specific discipline who handles assignments of low complexity using a variety of procedures and techniques to support projects and/or operations at BC Hydro safely, with quality, within budget, and on time.

Experience and Role Accountabilities

A minimum of four (4) years of directly related technical work experience or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.
Maintain the quality and efficiency of engineering solutions by using initiative and judgment to identify problems and select appropriate solutions to sustain ongoing operational requirements of BC Hydro.
Plan and carry out non-routine technical assignments by working under the general supervision of a more senior technician or engineer who reviews work for accuracy, adequacy, and conformance with prescribed procedures.
Perform research and prepare recommendations and reports for projects and operations including extracting, collecting, compiling, and evaluating data from a variety of sources, catalogues, engineering handbooks, precedent designs or studies, suppliers and other references to support completion of assigned projects.
Structure and produce drawing deliverables for multi-discipline designs using training and experience in the field of specialty, general knowledge of other disciplines, and related engineering principles to support successful completion of assigned projects.
Exercise independent judgement in selecting and interpreting information, handling deviations from standard methods, resolving difficulties, and making recommendations to contribute in improving BC Hydro’s operational efficiencies.

Education and Skills

Technologist: Two (2) year diploma of technology in a relevant discipline or equivalent.
Technician: One (1) year certificate in engineering technology or equivalent.
Working knowledge of engineering computer applications.
Intermediate English skills for professional environment, written and spoken.

Key Responsibilities

Maintain and track equipment, tools, and inventory records.
Support asset assignments, equipment retirement, and documentation.
Prepare and maintain spreadsheets, reports, and database records.
Assist with equipment readiness, maintenance coordination, and operational processes.
Provide technical and administrative support to engineers, technologists, and testing personnel.
Compile and analyze data using Microsoft Excel and Microsoft 365 applications.

Qualifications

Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft 365 applications.
Excellent organizational, communication, and multitasking skills.
Experience with inventory control, equipment tracking, technical documentation, or operational support.
Experience in utility, engineering, testing, maintenance, construction, or industrial environments is an asset.

Requirements

Ability to safely move and organize equipment, tools, and materials using material-handling equipment.
Ability to perform physical duties in accordance with safety procedures and WorkSafeBC guidelines.
Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence (or equivalent) in good standing.
Occasional travel to other BC Hydro facilities or field locations
