Engine Systems Performance Engineer

The Engine Systems Performance team is looking for an experienced engineer who enjoys understanding complex technical changes, diagnosing issues across projects and code branches, and digging into performance problems to identify root causes.

In this role, you will partner with developers across the full production pipeline - including engineering, production, design, and art - to ensure our games and development workflows are performant, scalable, and reliable.

Your work will directly impact the player experience across multiple projects and initiatives within the Battlefield franchise.

Skills & Requirements

  • 5+ years of programming experience in C++, with a deep understanding of the language, best practices, and architectural considerations.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a service-oriented mindset.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical partners across development and leadership teams.
  • Expertise in concurrency, memory management, and performance optimization.
  • Proven experience developing for multiple devices, including consoles and varying hardware configurations.
  • Experience working with large codebases and multi-product development environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex, cross-domain investigations to identify and resolve technical issues.
  • Experience working with game engines such as Unreal, Unity, or Frostbite is preferred.
  • Bonus: Familiarity with profiling tools such as PIX, Superluminal, or Tracy Profiler.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Performance team and broader Engine organization to define and achieve goals for your domain or area of ownership.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance to other Software Engineers.
  • Analyze game performance using a variety of systems and tools, identifying and communicating areas of concern.
  • Lead root cause analysis for performance issues and propose effective mitigation strategies and solutions.
  • Partner with game code and content developers to debug and optimize performance bottlenecks identified during development and testing.
  • Review technical design documents to identify potential performance risks and recommend alternative implementations.
  • Identify opportunities to improve testing, tooling, and workflows for more effective triage, reporting, and performance analysis.
  • Adapt and evolve existing tools to support new features, platforms, and problem spaces.
