Original job description

The Opportunity

Join our Software Team to build the embedded firmware powering the next generation of AI datacenter hardware with real-time power control and telemetry. We need someone passionate about embedded systems, RTOS’s, virtualization, optimizing close to the metal, and automation - someone who wants to see their code control real silicon in production. We value innovation, customer obsession, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop firmware and drivers to manage our fleet of infrastructure IPs to optimize power, performance and reliability.
  • Develop orchestration code to coordinate operation between Movellus sensor and actuator IPs with ultrafast response times (< 1us).
  • Contribute to advanced AI/ML algorithm development to improve power efficiency and reliability in the datacenter.
  • Develop Python-based tools to support firmware, configuration of IPs, and data collection.
  • Validate firmware behaviour on simulation environments and FPGAs before tapeout.
  • Build automation infrastructure to deliver custom releases and host binaries to customers.
  • Support post-silicon bring-up.
  • Participate in/lead design reviews with peers and stakeholders.
  • Work closely with hardware engineers to identify peripheral programming issues, root cause analysis, and areas of improvement.
  • Review code developed by other team members and provide feedback to ensure best practices.
  • Debug and resolve system issues, improve code quality, implement maintainable software practices.

What We Are Looking For

  • BS, MS, or PhD in Computer/Electrical Engineering or related technical field.
  • 3+ years of experience in an Embedded Systems or Firmware role.
  • Proficiency in C, C++ and Python.
  • Experience with Linux kernel driver development.
  • Familiar with RISC-V and ARM architectures.
  • Familiarity with hardware & software co-verification/emulation platforms.
  • Strong experience with build tools (Bazel, Make) and leveraging containers.
  • Solid debugging, troubleshooting, and performance optimization skills.
  • You rely on metrics to continuously assess and improve software quality and operational health.
  • You love learning new technologies and to continuously challenge yourself by finding new and better ways to solve problems.
  • Flexibility to adjust to the dynamic nature of a startup.
  • Ability to give and process constructive feedback.
  • Level will be determined based on experience and the interview process.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience with SystemC/functional device models.
  • Experience with QEMU.
  • Experience developing software telemetry tools that enable visibility, analysis, and optimization across embedded systems.
  • Knowledge of AMBA and JTAG protocols.

What We Offer

  • A dedicated ambitious team with a vast range of talent across software and hardware.
  • Become part of a growing startup in the chip-making hardware industry.
  • Offices in Markham - Canada, Ann Arbor - Michigan, and San Jose - California. Hybrid working model for all offices.
  • Competitive total compensation package. All regular employees are eligible for company stock in the form of stock options.
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage.
  • Retirement savings through a defined contribution pension or savings plan.
  • Flexible PTO/Paid Time Off policy in addition to statutory holidays.
