- Lead the financial view of the work - from project performance and equipment costs to cash, planning and growth. LANCOR Concrete Contractors Ltd. is looking for a hands-on Controller to lead our accounting function and help company leaders make well-informed decisions across our Atlantic Canada operations.
ABOUT LANCOR
For nearly 40 years, LANCOR has delivered quality concrete formwork across New Brunswick and Atlantic Canada. Our reputation is built on quality, reliability and craftsmanship, backed by a skilled workforce and a company-owned equipment fleet. We are growing while continuing to invest in our people and communities. Lancor owns affiliated companies operating in the construction and real estate sectors.
THE OPPORTUNITY
Based in Scoudouc, the Controller will lead the accounting team and bring reliable, timely financial insight to ownership and operating leaders. You will connect the numbers to the realities of active construction projects - working closely with project managers to understand performance, identify emerging issues and improve planning. The position has a broad, hands-on remit across financial reporting, cash, project controls, equipment and core finance operations.
WHAT YOU’LL LEAD
- Lead and develop the accounting team; oversee the general ledger, month-end close, payroll, accounts payable and accounts receivable.
- Deliver accurate monthly financial reporting, budgets, forecasts and cash-flow projections, with clear analysis for company leadership.
- Lead project financial reporting and regular work-in-progress (WIP) reviews, including job costs, earned revenue and billings, cost-to-complete trends, project margins and follow-up with project managers.
- Provide project and equipment cost analysis; help operating leaders understand results, investigate variances and evaluate maintenance and purchase decisions.
- Strengthen financial processes, internal controls, reporting and cost-management practices as the business grows.
- Oversee work-on-hand reporting, government remittances and filings (including HST, payroll source deductions, WorkSafeNB and corporate tax), insurance administration, and financial review of contracts and payment terms.
- Manage relationships with banks and other financing partners, including operating lines and equipment financing; coordinate with external accountants and advisers as appropriate.
WHAT YOU BRING
- Progressive experience leading accounting or finance operations, including month-end reporting, forecasting, cash management and people leadership.
- A degree or diploma in accounting, finance or a related field - or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Strong analytical judgement, care with financial information, and the ability to explain results and risks clearly to non-finance colleagues.
- A collaborative leadership style: you set clear expectations, support the team and build effective working relationships with project and operations leaders.
- A minimum of five (5) years of experience in construction accounting or other project-based businesses, including project cost accounting and work-in-progress (WIP) accounting, is a significant asset. A CPA designation and experience with accounting systems used in the construction industry are also assets, where applicable.
- The ability to communicate in English, both verbally and in writing, is required. The ability to communicate in French would be an asset but is not essential.
- Strong prioritization, organizational, and teamwork skills, along with a positive attitude.
