Inside Sales Associate (Business Development)

Location: Oshawa, Canada

About Us

My client is a global manufacturer of custom-engineered bulk material handling and conveying systems. For more than 50 years, they have helped customers improve efficiency, product quality and operational performance across industries including food processing, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, plastics, minerals and industrial manufacturing.

Our reputation has been built on engineering excellence, innovative solutions and long-term customer partnerships. As we continue to grow, we're looking for ambitious commercial talent who want to build a long-term career in technical sales.

The Opportunity

This is an excellent opportunity for someone early in their sales career who enjoys creating opportunities, speaking with new people and developing their commercial skills.

As an Inside Sales Associate, your primary responsibility will be generating qualified sales opportunities for our Regional Sales Managers through targeted outbound prospecting. You'll research companies, identify decision-makers, initiate conversations and qualify customer requirements before handing opportunities over to the field sales team.

Alongside prospecting, you'll also support the wider sales function by qualifying inbound enquiries, preparing quotations, conducting customer research and maintaining accurate CRM records.

This role is designed as a development position for someone with the ambition to grow into a Regional Sales Manager over time. We are looking for potential, curiosity and drive rather than extensive industry experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Generate new sales opportunities through proactive outbound calling, email campaigns and LinkedIn outreach.
  • Research target industries, manufacturing facilities and prospective customers.
  • Identify key decision-makers and build prospect lists using common sales prospecting and CRM tools.
  • Qualify customer opportunities by understanding applications, manufacturing processes, timelines and project requirements.
  • Schedule qualified meetings and hand opportunities to Regional Sales Managers.
  • Follow up consistently with prospective customers while maintaining a professional, consultative approach.
  • Maintain accurate CRM records, activities and follow-up schedules.
  • Support qualification of inbound enquiries.
  • Assist with quotation preparation and customer research.
  • Coordinate with Regional Sales Managers and internal departments to support the sales process.
  • Continue developing product knowledge and industry understanding through ongoing training.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone with one to four years of B2B sales or customer-facing commercial experience who is excited by the challenge of creating new business opportunities.

You don't need previous conveyor, capital equipment or industrial machinery experience - we can teach you our products. What matters most is your willingness to learn, your confidence speaking with new people and your ability to stay organised while managing multiple opportunities.

You'll Likely Have Experience In

  • Sales Development Representative (SDR)
  • Business Development Representative (BDR)
  • Junior Business Development
  • Inside Sales
  • Industrial Distribution
  • Equipment Rental
  • Technical Product Sales
  • Manufacturing Customer Service with proactive sales responsibilities

Required Skills & Experience

  • 1-4 years of B2B sales, business development, inside sales or related commercial experience.
  • Confidence making outbound telephone calls to prospective customers.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organisation and time management.
  • Comfortable researching companies and identifying decision-makers.
  • Experience using CRM systems.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to learn technical products and manufacturing applications.
  • Professional, resilient and self-motivated approach.

Experience using common sales prospecting and lead-generation tools would be advantageous.

What Makes Someone Successful

  • Confidence initiating conversations with people they haven't met.
  • A genuine interest in business development and prospecting.
  • Commercial curiosity and strong listening skills.
  • The ability to ask thoughtful qualifying questions.
  • Persistence without becoming overly aggressive.
  • Strong organisation and consistent follow-through.
  • Coachability and openness to feedback.
  • Ambition to develop into a broader customer-facing sales role.
  • Realistic expectations about beginning in a prospecting and sales support position.

Why Join Us?

  • Join an established global engineering and manufacturing business with over 50 years of success.
  • Work alongside experienced commercial and technical professionals.
  • Receive ongoing coaching and product training.
  • Build a long-term career in technical sales with genuine progression opportunities.
  • Gain exposure to customers across a wide range of manufacturing industries.
  • Be part of a collaborative, supportive and growth-focused team.
  • Competitive salary and benefits package.

If you're looking for a role where you can develop your commercial skills, create new business opportunities and build a long-term career in technical sales, we'd love to hear from you.
