Health & Safety Coordinator

Full Time / Permanent / Onsite

Richmond Hill, ON

Who Are We?

MT Talent Solutions Inc. is a strategic recruitment agency specializing in connecting skilled professionals with top employers across Canada and the United States. Our holistic approach ensures that both technical and cultural alignment leads to long-term success for all parties involved.

Why Are We Looking for You?

We are proud to partner with our client, a well-established manufacturer that has produced quality products for over 60 years, as they add a Health & Safety Coordinator to their team.

This is an exciting opportunity to take ownership of day-to-day health and safety activities within a busy heavy industrial manufacturing environment. Working closely with the HR Manager and operational leadership, you will have a highly visible, hands-on presence on the plant floor and play an important role in strengthening the organization's safety culture.

Our client is an incredibly stable company that has recently made significant investments in upgrading and modernizing its equipment and operations. You’ll be joining an organization led by passionate, down-to-earth leaders who value their employees and support professional growth.

Here’s What’s in It for You:

Competitive salary of $65,000–$75,000, based on experience
Full health and dental benefits
Company pension plan
Disability and life insurance
Employee assistance program
Paid time off
On-site parking
Stable, long-term employment with an established manufacturer
Opportunity to take ownership of health and safety initiatives and make a visible impact within the organization

Overview:

The Health & Safety Coordinator is responsible for supporting and maintaining the company's health and safety program while ensuring compliance with applicable Ontario legislation and regulations.

This is a hands-on, floor-facing position responsible for workplace inspections, risk assessments, incident investigations, employee training, Joint Health and Safety Committee activities, WSIB support, emergency preparedness, and safety documentation.

The successful candidate will be someone who enjoys being actively involved in plant operations and is passionate about creating a genuine safety culture - not simply managing policies and paperwork.

Here’s What You Will Do:

Manage and support the facility's health and safety program, ensuring policies and procedures remain current and compliant with the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulation 851 (Industrial Establishments), and WHMIS 2015.
Monitor changes to applicable health, safety, and environmental legislation and help translate regulatory requirements into practical workplace procedures.
Conduct regular workplace inspections, job hazard analyses, and risk assessments throughout manufacturing and material handling areas.
Identify workplace hazards and lead corrective and preventative actions related to risks including molten metal handling, dust and silica exposure, noise, heat stress, and ergonomics.
Lead root-cause investigations involving incidents, accidents, and near misses, ensuring corrective actions are implemented and followed through to completion.
Complete required reporting to WSIB and the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development (MLITSD).
Act as a key point of contact during Ministry of Labour site visits and safety-related customer or insurer inquiries.
Coordinate and support the Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC), including scheduling meetings, maintaining documentation, and tracking action items through completion.
Ensure certified JHSC members receive appropriate training in accordance with applicable Ontario regulations.
Develop and deliver employee health and safety training, including WHMIS, lockout/tagout, PPE, confined space entry, forklift and overhead crane operation, and hot work procedures.
Conduct health and safety orientations for new employees and contractors before they access the plant floor.
Maintain accurate and audit-ready training records, SDS documentation, workplace inspection records, and JHSC meeting minutes.
Support WSIB claims management, return-to-work programs, and modified-duty programs.
Coordinate emergency preparedness activities, including fire drills, spill response, and evacuation procedures.
Promote a proactive, safety-first culture and work collaboratively with employees and leadership to continuously improve workplace safety.

Here’s What We Are Looking For:

2–4 years of health and safety experience within an industrial or manufacturing environment.
Hands-on experience conducting workplace inspections and incident investigations.
Demonstrated ability to complete root-cause investigations and successfully implement corrective actions.
Working knowledge of the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), Workplace Safety and Insurance Act (WSIA), and WHMIS 2015.
JHSC certification or willingness to obtain certification within an agreed-upon timeframe.
Strong investigative, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
Strong written communication and report-writing skills.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to influence safety behaviours across all levels of an organization - from plant-floor employees through senior leadership.
Comfortable working in a hands-on industrial manufacturing environment and maintaining a visible presence on the plant floor.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to maintain accurate records, documentation, and safety metrics.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
Proactive, approachable, and collaborative working style with a genuine commitment to workplace health and safety.
