Position Overview
The Senior Data Specialist serves as the primary administrator and subject matter expert for the TAI Reinsurance Administration platform supporting Retro Operations. This role is responsible for the integrity, governance, and optimization of retrocession data and system processes, ensuring accurate and timely premium, claims, in-force, and financial reporting.
The position plays a critical role in maintaining operational excellence through system administration, data management, audit readiness, stakeholder support, and continuous improvement initiatives. The role bridges business and technical functions, providing expertise on TAI functionality, data architecture, enhancements, integrations, and operational processing.
Your Role:
TAI System Administration and Ownership
- Act as the primary administrator and subject matter expert for the TAI Reinsurance Administration System.
- Manage TAI interfaces and upstream data feeds to ensure timely and accurate processing of business transactions.
- Configure, maintain, and optimize system parameters to support operational performance and business requirements.
- Support in TAI enhancements, upgrades, testing activities, and implementation initiatives.
- Maintain documentation relating to system configuration, mapping, business rules, and operational processes.
- Troubleshoot system issues and collaborate with internal and external partners to resolve processing and data concerns.
Data Management and Quality Assurance
- Manage the ingestion, validation, reconciliation, and maintenance of client and transactional data.
- Ensure completeness, accuracy, consistency, and integrity of premium, claims, billing, and in-force information.
- Investigate data discrepancies and perform root cause analysis to identify corrective actions.
- Support audit requirements through effective data controls, reconciliations, and documentation practices.
- Develop and execute data quality measures, monitoring processes, and validation controls.
Operational Support
- Support monthly/quarterly production cycles and ensure operational processing deadlines are achieved.
- Reconcile client cash flows and operational transactions across multiple systems.
- Monitor key operational performance indicators and escalate issues as appropriate.
- Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency, controls, and service delivery.
Technical Development and Automation
- Develop, maintain, and optimize SQL queries and automated processes.
- Support ETL processes and data transformation requirements across operational systems.
- Participate in system testing, change management, and release activities.
- Evaluate technical solutions and provide recommendations to improve data management and operational effectiveness.
- Adhere to established IT governance, security standards, and change management controls.
Stakeholder and Client Engagement
- Serve as a key contact for clients regarding data submission requirements, validation issues, and discrepancy resolution.
- Build strong relationships with Operations, Finance, Actuarial, Claims, Underwriting, IT, and external vendors.
- Provide subject matter expertise for strategic projects, initiatives, and business enhancements.
- Support audits, operational reviews, and regulatory inquiries through data analysis and documentation.
Your Profile:
Required Qualifications
- Post-secondary education
- Minimum 5+ years of insurance or reinsurance experience, including exposure to ceded and assumed business.
- Advanced knowledge of the TAI Reinsurance Administration System, including processing workflows, data structures, system functionality, and integrations.
- Strong understanding of reinsurance operations, premium processing, claims administration, and financial reporting concepts.
- Proven experience supporting or leading system enhancements, upgrades, implementations, or migration initiatives.
- Advanced SQL proficiency and strong technical problem-solving abilities.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including data analysis, reporting, and automation techniques.
- Experience with ETL processes, data validation, and operational controls.
- Demonstrated ability to bridge business and technical requirements and translate complex concepts for different audiences.
- Strong stakeholder management, communication, and relationship-building skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with TAI version 3.4 or higher.
- Previous participation in system implementation, migration, or modernization initiatives.
- Experience working with vendors and technology partners.
- Knowledge of audit, compliance, and operational risk management practices.
- Experience acting as a business subject matter expert on operational projects.

Our base salary range for this role is between $90,000 and $110,000 per year, plus an opportunity for an annual company bonus based upon a percentage of eligible pay. The salary estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for candidates hired in this position. Factors that may be used to determine your actual salary include your specific skills, how many years of experience you have and comparison to internal equity.
