Original job description
Hello. Is it YOU we’re looking for?
Cozy greetings from the Mysa team! Mysa is a Canadian smart-thermostat and energy company, founded and headquartered in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador. We build beautiful, simple smart controls for the way people actually heat and cool their homes: electric baseboard, mini-splits and heat pumps, central HVAC, and in-floor heating, with more devices on the way.
We serve two customers. Homeowners get comfort, control, and lower bills. Utilities get something they increasingly need: flexible, reliable load they can count on when the grid is under pressure. Our software connects the two, from grid-facing tools that let utilities run programs and integrate with their DERMS, to home orchestration that coordinates multiple devices, to tools for property managers.
The Role:
We're hiring a Senior Product Manager to own Energy Flexibility at Mysa: the products that turn thousands of thermostats, water heaters, heat pumps, and EV chargers into a dependable grid resource without making anyone's home less comfortable.
Reporting directly to our CEO, Joshua Green, you’ll join the Mysa Product team, and work as a peer to our two other Senior PMs. One owns our hardware and app experience, and the other owns our utility platform, DERMS integrations, and program enrollment. You’ll be working across both hardware and software to develop capabilities and strategies to maximize homeowner adoption and satisfaction as well as load flexibility the utilities are looking for.
You'll also be a regular part of our utility sales conversations. When a utility's technical team wants to understand exactly how we control a dual-fuel heat pump during a peak event, or how we'll measure and verify the savings, you're the person who can go deep with them and earn their trust.
What You Will Do:
- Advanced demand response and energy-reduction optimization. Move beyond simple event-based setbacks to continuous, comfort-aware load flexibility that is measurement-and-verification (M&V) ready from day one.
- Utility energy products and service integrations. Shape new products and integrations that utilities can deploy, from program features to the data and reporting they need to plan and settle.
- EV and charger managed charging. Define and ship managed-charging capabilities that shift EV load to the right hours, coordinate with the rest of the home, and fit cleanly into utility programs.
- Time-of-use schedule optimization. Help customers on time-of-use and dynamic rates save money automatically, by pre-conditioning and shifting heating and cooling in ways they barely notice.
- Technical utility sales support. Join utility pitches, RFP responses, and technical deep-dives as the product expert on HVAC control, heat pumps, and load flexibility.
- Roadmap and discovery. Turn input from utilities, homeowners, field data, and our engineering teams into a clear, prioritized roadmap, and explain the why behind it.
- Delivery with engineering and design. Write crisp requirements, make good trade-offs, and work closely with firmware, cloud, data, and app teams to ship and iterate.
What you'll bring:
- Senior product experience. Several years of product management experience, with a track record of shipping technical products end to end, ideally in energy, IoT, or connected hardware.
- Real HVAC and heat pump depth. A working understanding of how residential heating and cooling systems behave, including heat pumps and dual-fuel systems with a backup furnace, and what it takes to control them well.
- Load flexibility expertise. Hands-on experience with demand response, time-of-use or dynamic pricing, managed EV charging, or similar distributed energy programs.
- Comfort with utilities. You understand how utilities plan and run programs, how flexible load is valued, and how savings are measured and verified, and you can hold your own with utility engineers and program managers.
- Analytical rigour. You're comfortable working with device and grid data, building or reviewing optimization logic with data scientists and engineers, and using evidence to make decisions.
- Clear communication. You can explain a complex control strategy to a utility executive, an engineer, and a homeowner, adjusting the depth each time without losing accuracy.
- Ownership. You thrive with a broad mandate, work well as a peer to other senior PMs, and don't wait to be told what to do next.
Nice to have:
- Experience with DERMS, virtual power plant (VPP), or demand-side management platforms, and standards such as OpenADR or IEEE 2030.5.
- Background in building science, mechanical engineering, or energy modelling.
- Experience with optimization, forecasting, or model-predictive control for thermal loads.
- Familiarity with EV charger protocols and APIs (for example OCPP) or vehicle telematics.
- Experience with utility programs in cold-climate markets in Canada or the northern United States.
- Bilingual in English and French.
Why join Mysa?
