IT Systems Support Specialist – Technology & Infrastructure

Location: Ottawa, ON – On-Site

Contract: 6 Months + Extension

Start: ASAP

The Opportunity

We are seeking a hands-on IT Systems Support Specialist to provide technical support across a complex, highly operational technology environment.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Junior to Intermediate IT professional who enjoys a combination of end-user support, Windows systems, networking, infrastructure troubleshooting, and hands-on hardware support.

The successful candidate will support both traditional corporate IT infrastructure and specialized operational technology, including workstations, servers, networks, kiosks, printers, displays, telephony, security systems, and other technology used within a large operational facility.

Previous airport experience is NOT required. Experience supporting technology in an airport, transportation, logistics, healthcare, manufacturing, or other 24/7 operational environment would be considered an asset.

What You’ll Be Doing

Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot desktops, laptops, hardware, software, and peripheral devices
Provide responsive onsite and remote technical support to internal users
Troubleshoot Windows environments, Active Directory, Exchange, VPN, storage, and related enterprise systems
Create, modify, and remove user accounts and assist with password resets and access issues
Apply operating system updates, patches, and configuration changes
Troubleshoot and maintain LAN/WAN connectivity
Diagnose issues involving routers, switches, firewalls, servers, and other network-connected equipment
Install, configure, and support specialized hardware such as kiosks, service desks, boarding pass printers, baggage tag printers, displays, and other operational devices
Support technology associated with building systems, operational systems, displays, parking, public address, telephony, and security/access-control environments
Respond to help desk tickets and service requests, providing timely troubleshooting and resolution
Analyze system logs and identify potential system or infrastructure issues
Assist with the deployment and implementation of new technology solutions
Support system upgrades and ongoing infrastructure improvements
Maintain hardware/software inventory and licensing information
Assist with ordering IT equipment, supplies, and services
Maintain technical documentation, reports, and operational logs
Perform other related IT support duties as required

What We’re Looking For

College diploma or university degree in Computer Technology, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline

A combination of relevant education and approximately 3+ years of related IT experience
Hands-on experience with IT support, systems support, infrastructure, or technical troubleshooting
Knowledge of Windows operating systems and enterprise applications
Experience with hardware and software troubleshooting
Working knowledge of Active Directory
Understanding of LAN/WAN networking and connectivity troubleshooting
Familiarity with servers, networking equipment, workstations, printers, and peripheral devices
Understanding of IT security concepts and standard IT support practices
Experience working with a ticketing/service desk system; experience with any established ticketing platform is acceptable
Strong troubleshooting and analytical abilities
Strong customer-service and interpersonal skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
Ability to prioritize multiple technical issues in a busy operational environment
Self-motivated, organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable learning unfamiliar technologies

Required – Driver’s Licence

Candidates must possess a valid Class G driver’s licence (Ontario) or Quebec equivalent and be able to provide a driver’s abstract issued within the last month.

Nice to Have

The following would be considered assets but are not mandatory:

Experience supporting technology within an airport, transportation, logistics, or other operational environment
Exposure to Common Use Passenger Processing Systems (CUPPS)
Exposure to Common Use Self-Service (CUSS) kiosks
Experience supporting passenger information kiosks, check-in desks, boarding pass printers, baggage tag printers, or similar self-service technology
Experience with building management, operational technology, display, telephony, parking, or security systems
ITIL certification or familiarity with ITIL/IT service management practices
Project coordination or project management experience
Bilingualism in English and French

Security / Clearance Requirements

The successful candidate must be eligible to complete the required background screening and security/access clearance process associated with working in a secure operational environment.

Who Will Succeed in This Role?

You don’t need to come from an airport environment to be successful.

We’re looking for someone who is technically curious, comfortable working hands-on, and willing to learn specialized systems. You should enjoy troubleshooting problems that can range from a user workstation or printer one moment to a network, kiosk, server, or operational system the next.

This role is particularly well suited to an IT professional who wants to broaden their infrastructure experience beyond a traditional help desk environment while working with a diverse range of enterprise and operational technologies.
