Senior Data Migration Advisor (Microsoft Dynamics 365 F&O / AX2009)

Part-Time | 20 Hours/Week | Hybrid | Contract (4–6 Months)

Overview

We are seeking a Senior Data Migration Advisor to provide strategic leadership and oversight for a Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations (D365 F&O) ERP implementation. This is a part-time consulting opportunity (approximately 20 hours per week) supporting the project through Go-Live.

The successful candidate will lead the overall data migration strategy while mentoring a small execution team responsible for the day-to-day migration activities. This role is focused on planning, governance, quality assurance, stakeholder engagement, and executive oversight - not hands-on execution alone.

The ideal candidate brings extensive experience leading enterprise ERP data migration programs, with proven success migrating Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009 to Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations, preferably within manufacturing or supply chain environments.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the overall Data Migration Strategy for a Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations (D365 F&O) implementation.
Develop and maintain the end-to-end Data Migration Master Plan.
Define migration waves, sequencing, dependencies, cutover strategy, and business continuity approach.
Establish migration governance, quality standards, KPIs, success metrics, and Go/No-Go criteria.
Develop migration schedules, resource plans, and overall migration roadmap.
Lead the strategy for data mapping, transformation, cleansing, validation, reconciliation, and data quality.
Plan and oversee mock migrations, dress rehearsals, production cutovers, and Go-Live activities.
Identify migration risks and implement mitigation strategies to minimize business disruption.
Provide strategic guidance and oversight to a team of Data Migration Specialists responsible for execution.
Review migration deliverables and ensure adherence to project timelines and quality expectations.
Partner with business stakeholders, SMEs, technical teams, and implementation partners throughout the migration lifecycle.
Communicate migration readiness, project status, and risks to project leadership and executive stakeholders.
Support post-Go-Live stabilization activities related to migrated data.

Required Qualifications

10+ years leading enterprise ERP data migration programs.
Proven experience migrating Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009 to Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations (D365 F&O).
Expert-level SQL Server and T-SQL scripting experience, including custom migration solutions outside of the standard D365 Data Management Framework (DMF).
Extensive experience developing enterprise-scale migration strategies, governance models, and master migration plans.
Strong expertise in data mapping, transformation, cleansing, validation, reconciliation, and migration quality assurance.
Experience leading mock migrations, dress rehearsals, cutover planning, and production Go-Live activities.
Demonstrated experience mentoring technical teams while providing strategic leadership and oversight.
Strong understanding of enterprise data governance and migration best practices.
Experience supporting large-scale manufacturing, supply chain, or ERP transformation initiatives.
Exceptional planning, organizational, stakeholder management, and executive communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience within manufacturing, distribution, or supply chain environments.
Previous consulting or advisory experience on complex ERP transformation programs.
Experience collaborating with Microsoft implementation partners and cross-functional project teams.

Engagement Details

Contract: 4–6 Months (through Go-Live)
Hours: Approximately 20 hours per week
Work Model: Hybrid (2–3 days onsite per week)
