Original job description

FOUNDED IN 1992, NANOWAVE TECHNOLOGIES INC. is a vertically integrated designer and manufacturer of RF sensing and communications hardware.

The Nanowave group has more than 6,000 communications and SAR payload assemblies in orbit and more than 30,000 RF avionics assemblies on commercial and defense aerospace platforms.

Customers include many of the major space, aerospace, and defense OEMs in both the US and Europe.

Advancement at Nanowave is dependent on two main factors:

  • A person’s in-depth knowledge of their subject area
  • The ability and willingness to work as a member of a diverse team of professionals to meet the company’s commitments to customers

About the Role:

The Drafting Technician supports engineering and manufacturing teams by producing accurate 2D and 3D CAD drawings, models, and technical documentation. The role involves interpreting engineering concepts, applying GD&T standards, maintaining design data, and supporting aerospace and high-precision manufacturing activities.

Responsibilities:

Project & Design Support

  • Review project requirements, understand scope, and identify drafting tasks required for successful completion.
  • Estimate task durations and manage assigned work to meet project timelines.
  • Interpret engineering sketches, concepts, and requirements to produce accurate 2D and 3D models, drawings, and documentation.

CAD & Documentation

  • Create detailed models and drawings using Autodesk Inventor (3D) and AutoCAD (2D) in accordance with ASME/ANSI Y14.5‑2009 standards.
  • Maintain and manage design data using Autodesk Vault.
  • Generate specifications, logic trees, and technical documentation to support engineering and manufacturing activities.

Engineering & Manufacturing Support

  • Assist engineers in the design, development, testing, and manufacturing of aerospace components, RF/microwave assemblies, and mechanical enclosures.
  • Perform GD&T tolerance stack‑up analyses and ensure dimensional accuracy and manufacturability.
  • Support the creation of product and process specifications and mechanical property documentation.

Process & ERP Integration

  • Generate and document assembly processes and manufacturing instructions using Infor LN (ERP).
  • Ensure documentation accuracy and alignment with configuration control and quality requirements.

Cross‑Functional Collaboration

  • Provide technical support to engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams regarding design intent, fabrication methods, and documentation.
  • Collaborate with machinists, technicians, and engineers to resolve design or manufacturing challenges.

Education:

  • Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Drafting/Design Technology, or related field.

Experience:

  • 3+ years of drafting experience in a manufacturing, aerospace, defense, or high precision engineering environment.

Skills/ Requirements:

  • Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD, and Autodesk Vault.
  • Strong understanding of GD&T and ASME/ANSI Y14.5‑2009 standards.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes such as CNC machining, sheet metal fabrication, and mechanical assembly.
  • Experience with ERP systems; Infor LN experience is an asset.
  • Experience working within the Controlled Goods Program (CGP) environment is considered an asset.
  • Must be able to obtain CGP registration.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
  • Strong attention to detail, problem‑solving skills, and ability to work independently in a technical, fast‑paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in Canada on an ongoing basis without employer sponsorship.

Nanowave is committed to transparent, fair, and equitable hiring practices in full compliance with Canadian federal and provincial requirements.
