Natural Forces is an asset owner and retains ownership in our projects long term. Our passion is to build relationships that allow us to harness renewable energy resources in an environmentally and economically responsible way.

You will be joining a team that places a high value on employee growth, sustainability, and a healthy work environment.

PRIMARY OBJECTIVES

Natural Forces is seeking a Renewable Energy Asset Manager to oversee the technical, operational, commercial, and regulatory performance of a portfolio of renewable energy projects located across Canada and Ireland. Based in Halifax, Nova Scotia, this role combines engineering, data analysis, project management, and commercial asset management responsibilities.

The Asset Manager serves as the owner's representative and primary point of coordination between operations personnel, contractors, project partners, customers, and internal development, construction, finance, and HSE teams. Success in this role means:

  • Maximizing production, availability, and revenue across a portfolio of renewable energy assets.
  • Identifying operational risks and performance improvement opportunities through data analysis and field observations.
  • Maintaining strong relationships with service providers, utilities, project partners, landowners, and stakeholders.
  • Ensuring compliance with permits, agreements, financing requirements, and regulatory obligations.
  • Successfully transitioning new projects from construction into long-term operations.
  • Delivering accurate reporting and actionable recommendations that improve asset performance and reliability.

This position is ideal for someone who enjoys solving technical problems, analyzing performance data, coordinating complex projects, and taking ownership of asset outcomes.

KEY TASKS AND DUTIES

Asset Performance and Reliability

  • Monitor asset performance using SCADA systems, monitoring platforms, and operational reports.
  • Analyze production, availability, curtailment, downtime, and maintenance data to identify performance losses and reliability concerns.
  • Conduct root-cause analysis of equipment failures and recurring operational issues.
  • Develop and implement corrective action plans in collaboration with OEMs, contractors, and site personnel.
  • Perform regular loss analyses and recommend initiatives to improve production, availability, and operational efficiency.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and operational process optimization across the portfolio.

Technical Asset Oversight

  • Conduct periodic site visits and inspections of civil, electrical, mechanical, controls, communications, and balance-of-plant infrastructure.
  • Maintain a working understanding of project design, operating parameters, equipment warranties, and technical obligations.
  • Review maintenance activities and inspection reports to ensure assets are maintained in accordance with industry standards, contractual requirements, and manufacturer recommendations.
  • Support troubleshooting efforts and provide technical oversight during equipment failures, major repairs, and performance investigations.
  • Maintain asset records, maintenance history, and spare-parts inventories within the CMMS.

Compliance and Stakeholder Management

  • Maintain compliance registers covering permit conditions, environmental requirements, interconnection agreements, financing obligations, and power purchase agreements.
  • Track and coordinate commitments made through development, permitting, community engagement, Indigenous consultation, and financing processes.
  • Identify emerging compliance risks and coordinate mitigation measures.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with regulators, utilities, service providers, project partners, landowners, and community stakeholders.
  • Work closely with internal legal, finance, development, and construction teams to ensure operational commitments are understood and fulfilled.

Commercial Asset Management

  • Act as the owner's representative for operations and maintenance agreements, service contracts, and third-party support arrangements.
  • Review contractor performance against contractual obligations and key performance indicators.
  • Lead annual budget development and forecasting for assigned assets.
  • Monitor operating expenditures and identify material variances against budget.
  • Support insurance claims and operational incident investigations as required.
  • Contribute to long-term asset management planning and lifecycle decision-making.

Project and Operations Management

  • Lead the operational handover of new projects from construction into long-term operations.
  • Ensure all required documentation, procedures, training, contracts, monitoring systems, and operational processes are in place before commercial operation.
  • Coordinate maintenance providers, technical consultants, utilities, engineers, and contractors to support safe and reliable operations.
  • Support health, safety, and environmental initiatives through participation in inspections, site orientations, safe-work planning, and operational reviews.
  • Develop and improve operating procedures, emergency response plans, and performance monitoring processes.

Reporting and Analytics

  • Lead weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual asset performance reporting.
  • Develop and maintain operational dashboards, KPIs, and performance metrics.
  • Translate operational data into clear insights and recommendations for management, investors, lenders, partners, and other stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with development and construction teams to share lessons learned and support future project optimization.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Renewable Energy Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related technical discipline.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or eligibility is considered an asset but is not required.
  • 5+ years of experience in renewable energy, utility, industrial, infrastructure, or technical asset management environments.
  • Experience with utility-scale wind, solar PV, battery energy storage systems (BESS), hydroelectric, transmission, or industrial facilities is considered an asset.
  • Experience coordinating maintenance activities, managing technical contractors, or overseeing operational assets.
  • Experience interpreting and analyzing operational performance data.

SKILLS AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS

  • Strong technical understanding of electrical, mechanical, civil, and control systems.
