Original job description

Be a foundational part of Netlight’s North American story.

About Netlight

Netlight is an award-winning tech consulting firm dedicated to transforming the world's most ambitious digital companies. We believe that lasting impact comes from shared expertise, which is why we've built a culture where our 2,000+ consultants actively collaborate, learn from one another, and grow together. Every Netlighter benefits from personalized mentorship, dedicated coaching, and access to our collective knowledge. We've created a network where trust, accountability, and diverse perspectives thrive, where challenging work fuels both professional development and meaningful relationships. Our success isn't just measured in client outcomes, but in how we grow as individuals and as a firm. At Netlight, personal growth and organizational growth are inseparable. Every consultant shapes our culture and, in turn, is shaped by it.

Come work with us

As a Data Engineering Consultant at Netlight, you will join a collaborative, ambitious, and mutually supportive environment where you define your own journey. You’ll partner with industry-leading clients to solve real business challenges, tackle a variety of technical domains, and grow alongside a brand-new Toronto team. The role has a lot in common with a forward deployed engineer position: you’ll be embedded directly with client teams, building and shipping solutions on the ground to solve their most pressing problems.

A Day in the Life at Netlight

Design and build robust, scalable data platforms and pipelines in close collaboration with data scientists, analytics teams, and business stakeholders.
Own the end-to-end lifecycle of data solutions, from architecture and pipeline development to testing, deployment, orchestration, and monitoring.
Develop high-quality, scalable solutions for complex data challenges across streaming and batch processing, data warehousing, lake architectures, and analytics enablement.
Use and build with AI day-to-day - from AI-assisted coding to designing and shipping AI-powered features - to move faster and deliver more value to clients.

What makes Netlight different

At Netlight, instead of predefined roles, we tailor positions to fit individuals. On the basis of your experience, strengths, interests and market demand; you take charge of your career path by defining the roles you take on with a variety of clients.
Netlight is a highly engaged network organization where you connect with peers, seniors, mentors, coaches, EDGE networks, and social circles.
We build solutions across diverse domains - backend, frontend, cloud, mobile, data engineering, infrastructure, product, UX/UI, and more.
We have a flat organizational structure with no traditional bosses. We foster collaboration, autonomy, and shared responsibility, empowering everyone to contribute and shape their own career path.

Qualifications we are looking for

Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent.
1-4 years of experience in software engineering after graduation.
Fluent in English (spoken and written).
Based in Toronto; this is a 100% in-person role.
Legally eligible to work in Ontario, Canada.
Curiosity about multiple industries and technologies.
Tech agnostic mindset with proficiency and experience in some of the following: Python, Databricks, PySpark or Spark, SQL, Airflow, Cloud (AWS, GCP, Azure)
Strong communication skills
Proficiency with using and building with AI: comfortable working with AI coding assistants/agents, and experience integrating AI or LLM capabilities into products.

We Offer

The unique opportunity to be part of building a local company and leading the development of an emerging Netlight office: driving the growth of one of our 15 offices. This is the opportunity to engage in a perfect sweet spot between a scale-up and an established company.
Competence development is core and realized through a culture of knowledge sharing, feedback, professional coaching and mentorship.
An international working environment – access to a diverse network of 2,000+ highly talented individuals
Regular Summits where you connect with the rest of Netlight internationally.
Modern tech equipment and a centrally located office space.

Compensation and benefits

Transparent salary development throughout your career with semi-annual compensation reviews
For this role, candidates can expect a starting base salary of CA$95,000 – CA$109,000. Total starting compensation ranges from CA$95,000 – CA$125,000, consisting of base salary and variable salary. Actual compensation is determined based on skills, experience, and role level.
Variable salary is our version of a bonus program and, it is paid out bi-weekly together with your base salary. The amount is based in part on your seniority and on the group performance of Netlight
