About Coeur Mining

Coeur Mining is a growing, all-North American precious metals producer with seven operations: the Las Chispas silver-gold mine and Palmarejo gold-silver complex in Mexico, the Rochester silver-gold mine in Nevada, the Kensington gold mine in Alaska, the Wharf gold mine in South Dakota, the Rainy River gold mine in Ontario, Canada, and the New Afton copper-gold mine in British Columbia, Canada. In addition, Coeur owns the Silvertip silver-zinc-lead exploration project in British Columbia.

Coeur offers a flexible, hybrid work model and a culture built on safety, collaboration, and real opportunities to develop your career for those who want to grow alongside a company that is doing the same.

New Afton

Situated 10 kilometers west of Kamloops, British Columbia, the New Afton mine is an underground gold and copper producing site.

Kamloops is a city of 105,000 people, located 350 kilometers east of Vancouver. The area provides the opportunity to live and work in a vibrant community with its own university and within easy reach of world class ski resorts, championship golf courses, mountain biking trails, popular recreational lakes and award-winning vineyards.

About The Role

Schedule: 5x2, Monday to Friday or 4X3, flexibility in schedule available

Position Reports To: Senior Mine Engineer / Lead Engineer

Position Overview

We currently have an exciting opportunity for one Engineering student to join our Technical Services department for an 8, 12 or 16-month work term commencing January 2027, to assist the Mine Planning and Ventilation teams. This is an opportunity for a full-time engineering student who has a safety-oriented mindset to gain experience in an operating, block cave mine.

Block Caving

New Afton Mine is currently the only operating block cave mine in Canada. Block Caving is an underground mass mining method that allows the extraction of larger and lower grade deposits than traditional underground mining methods. As many of the worlds large surface mines continue to exhaust their viable open pit reserves and new surface deposits continue to decrease, block caving will provide an economical method for continuing to mine these large deposits underground.

Block Caving presents some of the most complex technical challenges in mining. See
