THIS POST IS FIXED TERM TO MARCH 2028
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the team responsible for the implementation of Scan for Safety across NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde by undertaking the role of Band 8A Scan for Safety Digital Operations Manager.
The Scan for Safety programme promotes patient safety and aims to support NHS Boards in fulfilling new legal requirements currently being introduced. A cornerstone of Scan for Safety is the tracking of implantable medical devices through their Unique Device Identifiers (UDIs), primarily through the scanning of medical device barcodes at the point of implantation. Within NHSGGC, this will involve the coordinated introduction of new technologies across approximately 100 theatres, serviced by around 20 theatre stores and logistically challenging exercise being undertaken in a safety critical environment. Also within scope of the project is the implementation of the Medical Devices Data Hub (MDDH), a national registry of all implanted devices, and the National Medical Equipment Management System (NMEMS) for capturing medical device provisioning information across Scotland. These initiatives are complemented through the introduction of more robust governance of medical devices, including the provision of patient implant cards and the automated reporting of medical device incidents. This role is part of a dedicated project team established to implement Scan for Safety across the Health Board.
The Scan for Safety Digital Operations Manager is responsible for mapping out and project managing the digital sub-projects required for the safe and successful implementation of Scan for Safety across NHS GGC. This includes the integration with theatre systems, resolving conflicts between competing digital platforms and establishing the Digital Business as Usual required following completion of the programme.

AI tools like ChatGPT or Copilot can be great for planning and preparing your application, but your answers must be your own.
- Show us the real you: Your application should reflect your skills, experience, and motivations authentically.
- Use AI wisely: It’s fine to use AI for ideas or to check spelling and grammar, but don’t let it write your answers.
- Why this matters: Applications that rely on AI-generated content may be withdrawn. By applying, you confirm your responses are based on your own knowledge and achievements.
Tip: Think of AI as a helper, not a substitute. We want to understand you, not an AI tool.
