Summary Statement

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced insurance or group retirement consultant to play a key role in growing NMG’s Strategy Consulting presence in Canada.

Based in our Toronto office and reporting to the Global Partner within our North American Strategy team, the Principal Consultant will work across NMG’s Global Insights and Strategy Consulting practices. The individual will play a leading role in identifying opportunities in NMG’s Canadian client network, developing those opportunities into strategic consulting engagements, and strengthening NMG’s position as a trusted advisor.

The successful candidate will combine deep insurance industry knowledge, strong client relationships and a consulting mindset with a genuine commercial drive. They will be able to recognize where clients may benefit from broader strategic support, bring together the right expertise from across NMG, and play a meaningful role in leading and delivering engagements that help clients achieve their strategic objectives.

This role is particularly suited to someone who enjoys building relationships, developing opportunities and helping clients define and address complex strategic questions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build strong connectivity between NMG’s Global Insights and Strategy Consulting practices, helping to translate market intelligence and existing client relationships into relevant consulting opportunities.
  • Develop a strong understanding of the strategic priorities, challenges and emerging needs of NMG’s Canadian clients.
  • Identify opportunities where NMG can provide additional strategic, commercial or organizational support.
  • Lead initial client conversations to explore business needs, define potential areas of support and position NMG’s broader consulting capabilities.
  • Develop and maintain trusted relationships with senior decision-makers across the Canadian market.
  • Prepare and deliver compelling proposals, presentations and pitches that clearly communicate NMG’s value proposition.
  • Lead consulting engagements from initial scoping and project design through to execution and final delivery.
  • Maintain appropriate visibility over the Canadian opportunity pipeline and provide clear updates on client discussions, priorities and next steps.
  • Stay informed about developments across the Canadian insurance and retirement markets and contribute to relevant thought leadership and client-facing content.
  • Represent NMG at relevant client meetings, industry events and broader market-development activities.
  • Collaborate effectively across geographies and practices, ensuring that clients benefit from NMG’s global network, specialist expertise and proprietary research.
  • Live the NMG values of Curiosity, Collaboration, Go for It, and Make it Count.

Your Experience

  • 8–10+ years of relevant experience gained within a consulting or professional-services firm, with a focus on insurance, group retirement or a closely related financial-services sector.
  • Strong knowledge of the Canadian insurance and/or group retirement markets and their key strategic and commercial priorities.
  • Demonstrated experience building relationships and engaging with senior client stakeholders.
  • A strong commercial orientation, with experience identifying, developing and converting client opportunities.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex ideas clearly and persuasively.
  • A collaborative and entrepreneurial approach, with the ability to work effectively across teams and geographies.

About NMG

The NMG Group is a global advisory and intermediary firm focused exclusively on the financial services sector. Established in 1992, NMG has enjoyed rapid expansion internationally and now has over 800 employees in 18 cities worldwide. Our guiding principle is to always ‘Find a Better Way’.

NMG Consulting is a leading multinational insurance, reinsurance and investments consultancy, integrating consulting, insights and analytics. Our consultants provide strategy consulting, insights, analytics and actuarial services to financial institutions including banks, insurers, reinsurers and fund managers.

We are constantly evolving and the range of work that we do challenges and expands our peoples’ knowledge at lightning speed. Our flat, team-based structures encourage participation from all experience levels – everyone is encouraged to contribute, regardless of their role. We advocate hearing different points of view, collaboration and constructive debate.

NMG’s Strategy Consulting practice works with major financial institutions to resolve ‘fork in the road’ decisions relating to:

  • Participation model
  • Competitive strategy
  • Business configuration and economics

We work across segments and geographies, with a particular focus on the issues facing multinationals as well as large domestic institutions seeking to expand into new markets and the interaction between advice, product/administration and risk manufacturing activities.

The combination of our specialist focus, global network and access to NMG’s research and analytics give us a unique perspective on the external and internal dynamics relevant to insurance, reinsurance and investments industries. This includes distribution intermediation, the intangible nature of financial products and the importance of risk management and capital.
