Organization Description
Thunderbird Partnership Foundation is a national non-profit organization serving First Nations in Mental Wellness. Our mandate is set by 3 frameworks:
- Honouring Our Strengths: A Renewed Framework to Address Substance Use Issues Among First Nations in Canada
- Indigenous Wellness Framework
- First Nations Mental Wellness Continuum
Our core stakeholders are First Nations communities and the network of First Nations adult and youth treatment centres. To support the mandate, Thunderbird has two office locations, one based in a First Nations community in southwestern Ontario, and the other in the city of London, Ontario. This position is based out of the Delaware Nation office, near the village of Bothwell.

- The Training and Education Manager is responsible for the implementation of the Training and Education work plan and training objectives that support Thunderbird’s mandate and strategic priorities.
- The Training and Education Manager also provides leadership for the coordination of all training initiatives, assigned training projects, stakeholder engagement, and the continuous improvement of training deliverables.

As the Thunderbird Partnership Foundation Training Manager, you will
- Provide leadership to the Training & Education team, ensuring alignment with Thunderbird Partnership Foundation’s mission, values, and organizational priorities
- Lead a large team of training and education staff and oversee related functions, systems, and administration, including employee relations
- Ensure the ongoing development of the Training & Education programs, including the Train the Trainer program and Community of Practice,
- Oversee curriculum review and updating with attention to stakeholder evaluation of training courses
- Ensure a foundation of Indigenous Knowledge is used in the planning and design of training methodology and delivery and including the development of curriculum and knowledge exchange resources for training programs.
- Monitor emerging training needs among the First Nations community workforce to deliver responsive training.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues, partners and stakeholders to ensure a coordinated response to support a comprehensive continuum of mental wellness training programs
- Actively participate in Thunderbird initiatives including knowledge translation efforts and support dialogue on Indigenous mental wellness & health research, action and policy developments.
- Develop and oversee comprehensive training plans that identify, project objectives, deliverables, activities, resources, timelines, responsibilities, resources and budgets
- Monitor the training and education workplan from initiation to completion
- Compile data and analyze past and current year training requirements to prepare budgets and justify resources needed
- Oversee the development of standard operating procedures to support development of training resources and training delivery
- Oversee the development of training curriculum, reference library resources, certification and evaluation procedures, multimedia visual aids, and other educational materials.
- Ensure the training team members have the information, resources and support required to complete assigned activities
- Compile data and analyze past and current year training requirements to prepare budgets and justify resources needed
- Maintain effective administrative structures, reporting systems, records management practices, and service delivery processes that support organizational priorities, funding requirements, and operational excellence.
- Monitor the use of digital tools, data systems, and reporting technologies to enhance the training team’s effectiveness, communication, evaluation, and decision-making
- Provide guidance to the training team and promote accountability for achieving training goals and objectives
- Coordinate meetings involving staff, partners, stakeholders, subject-matter experts, Knowledge keepers, and other identified participants
- Develop and maintain positive, respectful, and trust-based relationships with First Nations communities, Knowledge Keepers, governments, organizations, partners, and stakeholders
- Support the identification of funding opportunities relevant to training, knowledge exchange, and organizational priorities
You bring
- PhD or Masters degree in a relevant discipline from a recognized University in Education, Health, Social Work, and a minimum of one (5) year’s work experience in a Training and Education Environment
Or
- A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline from a recognized university combined with significant relevant experience may be considered.
Other requirements include
- Ability to manage external and internal resources;
- Proven experience in creating, managing, and executing project work plans;
- excellent writing skills in English and the ability to communicate clearly.
- hands on experience with MS Office.
- proficiency in using Zoom and other platforms as required for hosting online meetings and events.
- experience working with First Nations, or an Indigenous organization.
- fluency in a First Nations language (this is considered an asset).
- knowledge of First Nations culture and customs including natural healing.
- excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written).
- the ability to work collaboratively with internal teams and external stakeholders.
- the ability to function autonomously with minimal supervision, to be flexible and adaptable to change.
- a high level of professionalism and ability to always maintain confidentiality.
- a strong work ethic and commitment to quality.
- organizational, time-management and multitask skills with the ability to work on multiple assignments in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.
- demonstrated success in working collaboratively with staff, volunteers, board members and stakeholders.
- public speaking and presentation skills along with community engagement and networking.
- ability to network and build strong working relationships.
- ability to travel and access worksites not accessible by public transit.
