Job Title: Senior Maritime Electrical Engineer

Company Overview:

Noetiq Edge is a strategic consulting firm based in Canada that provides insights and talent expertise to firms across multiple industries including Finance, Supply Chain, Defence, Retail, Healthcare, and High-Tech.

We establish trusted partnerships with organizations to ensure they have the strategy, information, technology, and talent required to succeed in a dynamic world.

Job Description:

We are currently seeking a Senior Maritime Electrical Engineer for an initial 1 year contract position. This position will require a candidate located in Atlantic Canada, with about 20% of the work required on-site in Halifax.

As the successful candidate you will be at the forefront of maritime fleet electrification and decarbonization. You will lead the electrical design behind hybrid-electric and battery-powered vessels, shore-side charging integration, and the clean-power retrofits shaping the future of the industry.

Tasks:

  • Lead and deliver marine electrical engineering studies and designs for assigned projects: scope, schedule, and technical quality.
  • Design and specify shipboard electrical systems: power generation and distribution, DC grids, battery energy storage, lighting, automation, and communications.
  • Perform and review load analyses, one-line diagrams, short-circuit studies, trip coordination, wiring diagrams, and cable routing.
  • Advance electrification analyses: hybrid propulsion, diesel-electric, battery-electric, and shore-power (OPS) interfaces.
  • Conduct vessel surveys, field inspections, and commissioning support.
  • Prepare drawings, specifications, calculations, technical reports, repair recommendations, and Class/Transport Canada submission packages.
  • Oversee electrical aspects of new construction, electrification retrofits, and repair projects
  • Present findings to clients, classification societies, and regulators; coordinate with naval architects, marine engineers, and subcontractors.
  • Advise clients on emerging decarbonization technologies and support tender/bid reviews.

Must-have Qualifications:

  • 6+ years of direct marine/shipboard electrical engineering experience.
  • Hands-on experience with hybrid, diesel-electric, or battery-electric propulsion systems.
  • Working knowledge of Class Rules (LR, DNV, ABS, BV), Transport Canada Marine Safety requirements, and IEEE/IEC/CSA standards.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD (or similar) and electrical analysis software (SKM PowerTools, ETAP).

Nice-to-have Qualifications:

  • P.Eng. registration (or eligibility)
  • Experience with battery energy storage systems (BESS), DC grid architectures, and shore-charging interfaces.
  • Experience with AutoCAD Electrical; Rhino or other 3D CAD tools.
  • Familiarity with IMO GHG strategy, Tier III/alternative-fuel compliance, or green shipping corridor projects.
