Family Support Worker

LOCATION: Vernon, BC

JOB TYPE: Temporary Part-Time (0.6 FTE, typically 3 days per week). This temporary position will begin in December 2026 and is for approximately 12 months or until the return of the incumbent.

HOURS: Monday – Friday, 7.5 hours per day (8:30am-4:30pm), approximately 22.5 hours per week. Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required based on program needs.

WAGE: $38.82 - $48.84 per hour, in accordance with the Health Science Professionals Bargaining Association (HSPBA) Collective Agreement, P1 Wage Schedule C (previously Grid 8)

Company Description NONA Child Development Centre is an individual and family services organization based in Vernon, BC, Canada. The centre provides support to children and families, focusing on developmental needs and overall well-being. Team members collaborate with caregivers, community agencies, and professionals to offer coordinated services. Role Description The Family Support Worker is a full-time, on-site role based in Vernon, BC. This position focuses on supporting children and their families through direct service, including intake, assessment, and ongoing case management. Day-to-day tasks include meeting with families to understand needs, developing support plans, providing guidance on community and developmental resources, and advocating for families within educational, health, and social service systems. The role involves coordinating with internal team members and external partners, maintaining accurate documentation, and monitoring progress toward individualized goals. The Family Support Worker also participates in team meetings, contributes to program development, and promotes a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for all families.

Qualifications

Background in Social Work or related human services fields, with the ability to provide family-centered support and advocacy.
Experience in Family Services, including working with diverse family structures and supporting caregivers through challenges and transitions.
Skills in Case Management, including assessment, care planning, coordination of services, and accurate documentation.
Experience Working With Children, particularly in developmental, behavioral, or family support settings.
Strong Communication skills, including active listening, clear written and verbal communication, and the ability to build trusting relationships.
Relevant post-secondary education (e.g., diploma or degree in Social Work, Child and Youth Care, Psychology, or related field).
Knowledge of community resources and support systems in Vernon, BC, or willingness to learn quickly.
Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team and maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality.
Organizational and time-management skills to manage multiple families and priorities effectively.
Clear criminal record check and any other checks required for working with children and families.
