This Casual Instructor role in the Interdisciplinary Therapy Assistant (ITA) Program plays a vital role in delivering high-quality education that prepares students for professional success. Reporting to the Program Chair or designate, this role is responsible for course preparation, delivery, evaluation, and continuous curriculum improvement to ensure learners receive engaging, relevant, and practice-focused instruction.
As part of a collaborative teaching environment, the Instructor supports student achievement, academic excellence, and professional readiness while demonstrating NorQuest's Qs and commitment to learner success. Instructors may teach in-person, online, or Hy-flex formats and provide theory, lab, and clinical instruction across a variety of healthcare settings. Travel may be required for clinical and practicum instruction to support hands-on learning experiences and real-world application of skills.
HOW YOU’LL MAKE A DIFFERENCE
- Prepare courses by updating course outlines, learning management system content, class materials, activities, and resources to ensure learning objectives are identified and met.
- Plan and develop instructional materials for theory, lab, and clinical learning environments.
- Deliver instruction across various healthcare settings, including labs, theory, and clinical placements.
- Provide initial skill demonstrations, supervise skill practice, and assess learner competency.
- Adapt teaching materials and instructional methods to meet student needs and support learner success.
- Ensure students acquire the knowledge, skills, and attitudes required for safe and effective practice.
- Supervise and mentor students during practical experiences while providing formative and summative feedback.
- Maintain a supportive learning environment that fosters equity, diversity, inclusion, student engagement, and success.
- Work collaboratively to create and develop curricula that align with learning objectives and accreditation standards and participate in course and program review activities.
- Maintain student records, implement learning improvement plans, submit grades in accordance with college procedures, and participate in committees, projects, and college service activities.
WHAT YOU BRING
- Degree in Occupational Therapy from an approved Occupational Therapy program.
- Occupational Therapist registered with the Alberta College of Occupational Therapists with an unrestricted practice permit.
- Minimum five years of clinical experience in Occupational Therapy.
- Experience teaching and mentoring Therapy Assistants.
- Excellent communication and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Computer skills and online teaching experience are preferred.

Compensation: THRP2101 is a 3-credit course that is compensated at a course casual rate per credit. An additional 11.2% is paid in lieu of benefits and vacation. This role falls under the NorQuest College Faculty Association. Please reference the NorQuest College Collective Agreement Appendix A to better understand how pay is determined.
