Original job description

Who We Are

North Vector Dynamics is a Canadian-owned and controlled defence technology company specializing in precision interception, autonomy, and advanced propulsion. NVD is building a full-spectrum missile capability, from counter-UAS solutions to hypersonics, designed to serve and defend NATO member states and their allies and partners.

About the Role

North Vector Dynamics is building next-generation unmanned systems, and the quality of our platforms depends on the people who build them. We’re looking for a UAS Technician to join our assembly and manufacturing team: working hands-on with airframes, avionics, propulsion systems, and payloads to bring our vehicles from components to flight-ready condition. This is a role built for someone who is technically sharp, detail-oriented, and hungry to develop their skills in a fast-moving environment. You’ll be part of a small, close-knit production team working directly alongside engineers and responsible for the quality of what leaves our floor. If you’re mechanically and electronically capable, take genuine pride in your work, and want to build the kind of systems you’ll one day see in the field, this role was written for you.

What You’ll Do

Perform hands-on assembly of UAS platforms: including airframe construction, avionics installation, wiring harness integration, propulsion system build-up, and payload fitment, working to engineering drawings and assembly instructions.

Execute QA inspection and functional testing at each stage of assembly: conducting pre-flight checks, bench testing of avionics and electrical systems, continuity checks, and final acceptance testing before vehicles are released for flight operations.

Manage and maintain accurate bill of materials (BOM) records: tracking component usage, flagging discrepancies between as-built configurations and engineering documentation, and supporting engineering change order (ECO) processes.

Support inventory management: receiving incoming components and materials, performing incoming inspection, maintaining stock accuracy, and coordinating with procurement and engineering to identify shortfalls and manage consumables.

Document build records, test results, and non-conformances in our quality management system, maintaining full traceability from components to completed vehicles.

Identify and escalate build issues, component defects, and design-for-manufacturability concerns to engineering; you’ll be a key feedback loop between the shop floor and the design team.

Support rework and repair activities on returned or fielded vehicles: diagnosing faults, replacing components, and restoring platforms to serviceable condition.

Contribute to continuous improvement of our assembly processes, work instructions, and quality procedures as our production scales.

Step into whatever the mission demands: this is a startup, and no two weeks will look the same.

What You Bring

Required

Practical hands-on experience with mechanical and electrical assembly: either through formal technical training, prior employment in a manufacturing or repair environment, or a demonstrated personal track record working with UAVs, RC systems, or similar electromechanical platforms.

A methodical, quality-first approach to assembly work: you work to procedure, take care with your builds, and understand that precision matters when systems will fly.

Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, assembly instructions, wiring diagrams, and bills of materials.

Basic competency with common hand tools, torque tools, soldering equipment, and electronic test equipment (multimeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies).

Comfort with inventory and parts management: tracking components, identifying shortfalls, and maintaining accurate records.

Attention to detail and a low error rate: you catch your own mistakes and flag others’ before they become problems.

Eligibility for a Government of Canada security clearance; active clearance is a significant asset.

A builder’s mindset: you take ownership of your work and look for ways to improve how things are done, not just complete the task in front of you.

Preferred

Post-secondary education or certification in aviation maintenance technology, electronics technology, mechanical engineering technology, or a closely related technical discipline.

Prior experience in a UAS, aerospace, or defence manufacturing or MRO environment.

Familiarity with AS9100 or ISO 9001 quality management frameworks and the documentation discipline they require.

Experience with ERP or MRP systems for inventory tracking, BOM management, and production order processing.

A practical background with UAS systems, whether professional or amateur: if you’ve built, flown, maintained, and repaired your own aircraft, we want to hear from you.

Why North Vector Dynamics

Real ownership from day one: the systems and processes you help build will be foundational to how this company operates for years to come.

We’re working on technology that matters at a national and global level, and every person on the team feels that weight and that purpose.

A tight-knit, high-calibre team that moves fast, holds each other to a high standard, and doesn’t waste time on bureaucracy for its own sake.

Competitive compensation and meaningful upside from joining an early-stage company at the forefront of the defence technology sector.

On-site in Calgary, AB, a growing hub for tech and defence, with a culture built around resilience and getting things done.
