About the Opportunity
Reporting to the Clinical Services Manager of the Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD) Program, the Nurse Practitioner (NP) provides specialized health care services, as a member of a multidisciplinary team for patients and families seeking MAID.
Using a patient-centered approach, the MAiD NP completes clinical eligibility assessments, consent and waiver requirements, prescribes medications, provides MAiD procedures and supports patient and family education throughout the process. This may include reviewing past medical history, interpretation of diagnostic tests and results, collaboration with experts, identification of additional resources needed to support the patient and facilitating access to these resources. The NP will provide clinical expertise related to complex cases, engage in collaborative clinical decision-making, promote best practice and adhere to professional practice guidelines and established legal and legislative requirements MAiD.
The NP adheres to the NSNMR Standards for Nursing Practice and the Code of Ethics and is responsible and accountable at all times for their own practice consistent with relevant legislation, and professional, and ethical standards. The NP is accountable to identify, analyze, and evaluate activities that are reflective of quality improvement initiatives.
Given patient assessments and provisions can occur in both community and in-patient settings, travel is a requirement of this position.
About You
We would love to hear from you if you have the following:
- Masters' of Nursing – Advanced Nursing Practice stream
- Registered with the Nova Scotia Nursing and Midwifery Regulator (NSNMR) with active-practicing status, with a license to practice as an NP in Nova Scotia or eligible for registration
- Minimum three years recent NP experience
- CAMAP membership would be an considered an asset
- CNA Certification in a relevant field would be an asset
- Ability to work collaboratively with all members of the interdisciplinary team
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills and aptitude for progressive, innovative, and creative thinking
- Adaptable to changing situations and environments
- Possesses strong leadership and organizational skills and a high degree of judgment and initiative
- Must have valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle
- Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Compensation and Benefits
$59.46 - $69.52 hourly
$71.96 hourly with 25 years' experience
